The Art of the Interview…. No, this is not a post about how to be an interviewee. There will be no tips, tricks, or advice on how to interview for and land your dream job. LinkedIn is full of outstanding guidance and resources on how to perform at your best as a candidate. Instead, I would like to focus on the importance of being a good interviewer. This is a tremendously important and critical skill. I suspect that employers have lengthened the interview process as a countermeasure to several problems; including, but not limited to, new hire retention, time to performance, satisfaction scores, etc. Maybe having more people interview a candidate is not the solution, but improving the skill of the interviewer is. I know many of you are expert at interviewing and have outstanding track records for identifying and hiring great candidates. How do you prepare? What are you looking for? How do you uncover it? What makes a good interviewer? Would you mind sharing your wisdom? Roy ChenLaila Al-Lamadani, MBA, MSHRTony FalcoTony HarrisJennifer WiegmanMichael VandenKolkChristopher Klamet

Good interview preparation can be the difference between nailing an interview or bombing. Here are some tips on how to ensure you set yourself up for success. A Great Recruiter: Working with a great recruiter can be invaluable to your preparation. They know their clients well and can prepare you for the interviewer's style. They will tell you what you can expect and can even give you insight on what questions will be asked. Do Your Homework: Research the company and who you will be meeting. It sounds obvious, but so many people are underprepared in this area. Understand the Job Role: Know what skills and experiences are required and be ready to discuss how your background aligns with these needs. Prepare Questions: Interviews are two-way streets. Prepare thoughtful questions about the role, team, or company. This shows your engagement and eagerness to learn more. Practice Common Questions: You will be asked why you are interested in the role and company, so think about how you will answer that. Think about and prepare for common situational based questions and research the STAR interview technique.
