🌍 Shell to Acquire Pavilion Energy, Strengthening LNG Leadership 🌍
📍 Singapore − Shell Eastern Trading Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of Shell plc, has announced an agreement with Carne Investments Pte. Ltd., an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Temasek, to acquire 100% of the shares in Pavilion Energy Pte. Ltd. Pavilion Energy brings a robust LNG trading business with a contracted supply volume of approximately 6.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa).
🏢 Headquartered in Singapore, Pavilion Energy’s global operations span LNG trading, shipping, and natural gas supply and marketing activities across Asia and Europe.
💬 “The acquisition of Pavilion Energy will bolster Shell’s leadership in LNG, adding significant volumes and flexibility to our global portfolio,” said Zoë Yujnovich, Shell’s Integrated Gas and Upstream Director. “This move will enhance our access to strategic gas markets in Asia and Europe, positioning Shell to deliver substantial value while meeting our customers’ energy security needs.”
💼 The acquisition aligns with Shell’s cash capital expenditure guidance and exceeds the internal rate of return (IRR) hurdle rate for Shell’s Integrated Gas business. This supports Shell’s 15-25% growth ambition for purchased volumes, relative to 2022, as outlined during the 2023 Capital Markets Day.
🔄 Integration of portfolios will begin after the deal’s completion, expected by Q1 2025, pending regulatory approvals and other conditions precedent.
📌 Notes to Editors:
• Pavilion Energy’s portfolio includes about 6.5 mtpa of long-term sale and supply LNG contracts, long-term regasification capacity in the UK, Singapore, and Spain, and chartered LNG vessels.
• The pipeline gas business and shareholding in Tanzania blocks are not part of the transaction.
• Global LNG demand is projected to rise by over 50% by 2040.
• Shell plans to grow its LNG business by 20-30% by 2030, compared with 2022.
