Here are some interesting facts about Canada Day: 1. **Birth of a Nation**: Canada Day marks the anniversary of the confederation of Canada on July 1, 1867, when the British North America Act (now known as the Constitution Act) came into effect, uniting the colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada (which became Ontario and Quebec). 2. **Originally Called Dominion Day**: The holiday was originally called Dominion Day until it was renamed Canada Day in 1982, following the passage of the Canada Act which gave Canada full sovereignty from the United Kingdom. 3. **Nationwide Celebrations**: Canada Day is celebrated with various events and activities across the country, including parades, fireworks, concerts, and barbecues. The largest celebration is held in Ottawa, the capital city, featuring performances, cultural displays, and a massive fireworks show.

Canada Day commemorates the British North America Act of 1867, which united three British colonies into the Dominion of Canada. Initially known as Dominion Day, the holiday became official in 1879. Historian Forrest Pass explains that the date was chosen for administrative reasons rather than revolutionary significance. Early celebrations were spontaneous and locally organized, often inspired by American Independence Day traditions. The festivities included a 'Dominion Salute' of one gun for each province, mirroring the American 'Federal Salute.' It wasn't until 1982 that Dominion Day was officially renamed Canada Day, reflecting a shift in national identity. This change paralleled other national symbols, such as the adoption of the maple leaf flag in 1965 and "O Canada" as the national anthem in 1980. Today's celebrations highlight Canada's multicultural and bilingual nature, moving away from its British colonial roots. Ottawa, the nation's capital, hosts significant celebrations on Parliament Hill. The Royal Canadian Air Force often features prominently in the festivities, adding to the patriotic atmosphere. Live musical performances and fireworks displays are common, with Canadians across the country participating in various local traditions, from barbecues to pancake breakfasts. Canada Day is a time for Canadians to come together and celebrate their shared heritage and evolving national identity. Today as we celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, we reflect on the many contributions Indigenous people have made to Canada. As an organization and as individuals, we recognize and respect: - The diversity of Indigenous cultures and worldviews and their roles in Canada’s past, present, and future. - Our collective responsibility to share natural resources revenues and close gaps in socio-economic conditions between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. - Our role in the journey towards reconciliation by advancing Indigenous knowledge systems in all our work. - Our privilege to live, work, and play on Indigenous land.

The day we call Australia Day should not be a cause for celebration – it should be a stark reminder of the immense pain and suffering endured by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. It's a day of mourning, a day to reflect on the deep wounds inflicted upon these resilient communities. Australia's lack of respect and understanding for the true significance of this day should leave us feeling ashamed. How can we celebrate a nation's prosperity without acknowledging the harrowing anguish of its oldest inhabitants? This day serves not as a joyful commemoration but as a testament to the enduring trauma inflicted upon generations. Impacts are still felt to this very day. Children were forcibly taken, forbidden to speak their language, raped, culture and identity stripped and forcibly made to endure a life deemed as incompetent, not even acknowledged as being counted as citizens of their own land! Let our collective shame stir us to action. Let it drive us not just to acknowledge the pain but to work towards healing and reconciliation actively. This is not just about history; it's about our present and our future. It's about creating a society that respects and uplifts the voices of those silenced for too long. Let's make Survival Day a day of genuine reflection, humility, and an unwavering commitment to change. Only then can we begin to honor the legacy and resilience of our Indigenous Peoples truly.

Most Australian's realise that "Australia Day" is controversial. 🤔 But do you know why? Contrary to what some might say - it has nothing to do with not wanting to celebrate the wonderful achievements, diversity and future of our nation. 👉🏾 The problem is the date. For most Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, January 26th is a day of great sorrow and mourning. Over the coming days, we'll be sharing information about how you can be an Ally on January 26th. #australiaday #notadatetocelebrate #practicalreconciliation #allyship #culturalawarenesstraining

Canada needs to change course! An economy built on immigration alone could not be sustainable. We need to develope a Canadian-based economic system that includes: natural resources, industrial production, innovation, construction, infrastructure, Canadian Aerospace and Canadian automotive. Why is Government subsidizing the foreign automotive industry? They come they take and they leave, Aren’t we able to design and build a Canadian automobile for export to other countries? With all the subsidies offered to Stellantis, Wolksvagen and Honda we could have built a state-of-the-art mega factory ourselves to manufacture an all Canadian EV, We have enormous potential in the Aerospace industry Why are we allowing foreign investors to buy the Bombardier C series when Canadians taxpayers contributed to the development of such beautiful aircraft? Hopefully a new leadership in government will keep some of these ideas in mind.
