How can new technologies and innovations enhance the sharing of architectural heritage for future generations? This is the premise of the seminar “Open Archive: Digital Preservation & Dissemination of Architecture” this Friday, hosted by Snøhetta and the National Museum, Norway. Alongside a talk and roundtable discussion with our CEO Tudinh D., the seminar will feature insights from experts and organisations including the Norman Foster Foundation, MVRDV, Nasjonalmuseet for kunst, arkitektur og design, Arkivverket | The National Archives of Norway, Delft University of Technology / THE NEW OPEN, Nationalmuseum, Sweden, Opening Hours Studio, and Piql AS, alongside Snøhetta. Part II | The Possibilities of Historical Reinterpretation The remaining historic architectural entities are commonly serving as tangible material remnants and archival records, reflecting and documenting the past, while the disciplinary background they entail, as well as the schools and trends of thought they had followed or derived, also comprehensively and profoundly, whether actively or passively, transmitting the intangible changes of the times, social transformations, and cultural evolution. BEHIND THE FORMS X SPATIAL METAPHOR North Gallery @northgalleryscut , Guangzhou, China 09/18 - 10/20 2023 Part II | METAPHOR In relation to the discussion of this part, the exhibition presents a variety of investigative explorations that attempt to elucidate the duality of architecture from different angles, covering spatial creative expressions emphasizing abstractions and generalizations of painting, reconstructions of spatial typologies starting from theatrical logics, reinterpretations of spatial experience modes based on traditional view of nature, and spatial morphological representations of transformations and reconfigurations relating to urban scale. These open examples particularly focus on the broader and more diverse spatiality within architecture, taking architecture as the basis while not limited to it, generating forms while not constraining them, which attempt to propose possible methods, modes, and perspectives of thinking. #JXYStudio #culture #art #architecture #exhibition #spectacle https://lnkd.in/gVZnXHUY

Major milestone in my PhD: developing and designing a monograph of Alberto Cruz's work, funded by Câmara Municipal de Cascais, and to be published next month. This research aims to inscribe Alberto Cruz in the historiography of modern Portuguese architecture through the identification of points of reception and cleavage, associated with the tradition and modernity's debate overall. By characterizing this architect's journey through forty years (1945-1987), we believe is possible to argue about his ability to dialogue the modern process with a spirit of tradition, corresponding, like himself, to the floating notion of the project of modernity in Portuguese architecture.

What can building materials and renovation processes tell us about museums? Lena Stina Andersson's new doctoral thesis studies architectural and material change processes at national museums in northern Europe. It also contributes with a historical study of the museum as a renovation and construction site and the relations between them. The thesis is structured around three case studies: Museuminsel/Pergamon Museum in #Berlin, Nationalmuseum, Sweden, #Stockholm, and Victoria and Albert Museum in #London. Each architectural and material renovation project brings together actors from the construction industry, museum institutions, and global actors. By exploring museum practices, international agreements, commodity chains, local development plans and ambitions, and hidden labour and workers, the research aims to clarify the reasons why national museum buildings are changing - processes that take place over decades and even centuries and are motivated by a range of global, national and local ambitions. Supervisors are Jennifer Mack and Anders Bergström, assistant professors in Architecture at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Read Anna Lena Andersson's thesis "The Entrance, the Floor, and the Tile -Unfolding Material Histories at Museum Renovation Sites in Berlin, Stockholm, and London" in full: https://lnkd.in/dwzKe_Pq #kth #architecture #buildingmaterials #nationalmuseums #materialhistory #renovationstudies

Architect, editor, content curator and researcher engaged in the dissemination of contemporary architecture and urbanism.
Although the 18th Venice Biennale of Architecture is coming to an end, some curatorial proposals will have an impact beyond their ephemerality. It’s the case of ‘Terra’, the Brazilian Representation by Gabriela de Matos and Paulo Tavares, which sees architecture as a way of advocacy and uses curatorship as a vehicle to deliver its message. The proposal, which received the Golden Lion for Best National Participation, responds to this year topic by putting upfront the contributions of African-Brazilian and indigenous communities to the architectural and territorial knowledge. It showcases the untold stories of the construction of Brasilia by decolonising hegemonic history and celebrates ancestral spatial practices as archaeologies of the future from which we can take lessons to decarbonise the world. Watch Gabriela and Paulo talk about ‘Terra’ on urbanNext https://lnkd.in/d4jepFSi Interviews by Marta Bugés and Ricardo Devesa Devesa. Filmed by Gloria Maria Schönburg. Edited by Marta Bugés. Independent brand consultant leading projects from strategy, to design & communication | Architecture & Design industry
Some decisions are almost instantaneous, coming directly from the gut. When I got the call from Queralt Garriga, Francesc Camps Palou, Cris Marcos & Andrea Palomino de la Fuente I didn't give it a second thought. There was no way I was going to miss the opportunity to be part of the curatorial team of the first architecture museum in Spain: La Casa de la Arquitectura. How to connect the three elements: the museum itself, the website and the catalogued architectural works all over Spain, into a coherent narrative? How to engage a non-specialized public with the importance of architecture? How to reach out to young architects who are generally so demoralized and undervalued these days? And lastly, is it possible to build a leading site capable of transmitting the transformative power of architecture? We answered all these questions and more in our ON SITE_ON LINE proposal which garnered second place in the public contest run by Ministerio de Vivienda y Agenda Urbana Keep reading about the project here: https://lnkd.in/dD5HAnrx #digital #publiccontest #architecture #communication

BROWN BAG SPEAKER SERIES IN THE HUMANITIES presents: Heather Clydesdale (Art and Art History) Wednesday, May 8 at 1:00-2:05 Learning Commons 129 Building Public Character in Taiwan Bring Your Lunch! Please address any questions to Daniel Turkeltaub (Classics) at [email protected] Architecture appears as structure and mass but creates meaning as space and spirit. Today, Taiwanese architects are making spaces that embody “public character” (gonggong xing 公共性). The island’s tangled cultural legacies, staunch commitment to sustainability, and public engagement in planning and construction help shape architectural works that, although avant-garde, are not altars to the egos of architects. Instead, from nature centers and theaters, bus depots and high-speed rail stations, to schools and cemeteries, Taiwan is a model for how architecture, sustainability, and democracy can connect people to natural environments, make historical legacies visible, and promote civic engagement.
