🚀 Evaluating New Ventures: The POCD Framework.
Traditionally, SWOT Analysis is used to evaluate the health of mature companies, while PEST Analysis is applied to assess strengths and weaknesses in market research.
However, a proven framework (POCD Framework) developed by Prof. William A. Sahlman from Harvard Business School and his innovative approach evaluates new ventures by examining four critical components:
- People 👥
- Opportunity (Business) 💡
- Context 🌐
- Deal 💼
What makes the POCD Framework so effective?
It allows for a comprehensive analysis of advantages and disadvantages within each element, blending the best aspects of SWOT and PEST analyses. It's particularly found valuable for assessing early-stage startups, while many researchers also use it to evaluate more mature ventures.
This framework an exellent tool for understanding the multifaceted nature of new business ventures not only for investors but also for founders. It's not just about identifying opportunities, but also about understanding the people behind the business, the broader context, and the specifics of the deal.
