Medlior is proud to have been a part of the study team contributing to the Canadian results from a series of multi-country database cohort studies as part of the EXACOS-CV programme (The EXAcerbations of COPD and their OutcomeS on CardioVascular diseases). The study was in collaboration with clinical advisors and sponsored by AstraZeneca. This RWE shows in four different countries, increased healthcare resource utilization and costs from a severe CV event or death at 0-12 months post-CV event (compared with 12 months prior) among exacerbating COPD patients. 💰 FUNDING: €1.4M EU Grant for Rare Endocrine and Bone Condition Research! We are thrilled to announce that EuRREB - European Registries for Rare Endocrine and Bone Conditions - has been awarded a €1.4M grant from the European Commission! This funding will support our ongoing work within the European Reference Networks for rare endocrine conditions (Endo-ERN - European Reference Network) and rare bone conditions (ERN BOND ERN) from 2024 to 2027. With over 35.000 patients, including both children and adults, our registries collect comprehensive data on rare endocrine and bone diseases. Currently active in 30 countries, including non-EU countries, and in more than 100 hospitals, our initiative continues to expand its reach and impact. The registries are led from the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) by Prof. Natasha Appelman-Dijkstra and Prof. S. Faisal Ahmed (University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School and LUMC), whose dedication and expertise are driving forces behind our success. ESC Amsterdam 2023 ❤️ During the late breaking science session dedicated to the risk in special populations, on behalf of the ADDICT-ICCU investigators, it was a pleasure to present our study “Impact of Carbon Monoxide in Smokers Hospitalized in ICCU for Acute Cardiac Events” During Smoking 🚬, CO is inhaled by the patient and binds to hemoglobin reducing the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood with negative consequences on the CV system. Exhaled CO is usually performed as a simple measure to objectify active smokers. The aim of our study was to assess whether inhaled CO is a prognostic marker of mortality in patients hospitalized for an acute cardiac event. This prospective study from the ADICT ICCU registry was performed in a cohort of 1379 patients. We found that exhaled CO was increased in active smokers compared to non-smoker and former smokers. Moreover, elevated CO was associated with an independent increase of death or MACE after adjustment 🔥🔥🔥. Specific management of this population could be interesting in the future. Thanks to all investigators of the ADDICT-ICCU study, to the Fondation Coeur et Recherche and to the Lariboisière team in particular T. Pezel and P. henry.
