We had the privilege of interviewing our keynote speaker Mishellene McKinney MHA RN OCN, Vice President of Cancer Care Service at Kaiser Permanente, to gain valuable insights into her perspective of the future of cancer care and the initiatives Kaiser Permanente is leading in this field. Here are some key takeaways: 🚩Key Challenge: Underutilization of proven cancer prevention and screening methods, despite possessing the necessary knowledge. Leveraging implementation science for wide-scale, evidence-based interventions, especially in underserved communities, is vital to reduce cancer incidence and mortality. It's time to translate knowledge into large-scale community actions. 🚀 Exciting Advances: Cancer care is evolving towards precision treatments with fewer side effects, replacing traditional, invasive methods. This transition includes advancements like precision medicine, minimally invasive surgery, nanotechnology and CAR T therapy. This progress dramatically improving patients’ quality of life and reducing the emotional toll on families, transforming what were once prolonged hospital stays into outpatient procedures.  🤝 Kaiser Permanente's Commitment: Serving 12.7M members, Kaiser Permanente prioritize cancer prevention and aim to accelerate genetic testing for hereditary cancers, particularly in underserved areas.
