12 Time thieves to avoid Behaviors, situations, and environmental elements that make us waste our valuable time are usually called time thieves. There are external and internal ones. Know about them and learn to detect them so you can think about how to eliminate them. 1. Lack of good personal organization. Take time every day to define your work: plan, group similar tasks within the same context and prepare a daily action plan. 2. Unclear goals. If you are unclear about what your goals are, you won’t be able to define the work to be done. 3. Not making decisions. Make decisions as soon as possible; in most cases it’s more efficient to decide without having all the information. 4. Not knowing how to say NO. Accepting requests that don’t bring you anything will waste a lot of time. 5. Inability to delegate. If you don’t delegate properly, you will end up doing things that others can do better, faster and at a lower cost. 6. Lack of concentration. Obviously, overwork, fatigue, stress and other factors can take their toll. 7. Poor communication. Convey your needs clearly and make sure the message has gotten through. Also, listen carefully. 8. Postponing tasks indefinitely. If you procrastinate on the tasks you like the least, they will end up coming back causing a state of emergency. 9. Interruptions. In addition to the time taken by an interruption itself, it takes an average of 15 minutes to regain lost focus. Switch off your phone whenever you need concentration. 10. Mail, social networks and instant messaging. These can be another kind of interruption. 11. Meetings. Meetings must be properly prepared beforehand, defining the topics to be discussed and setting a maximum time limit. 12. Crises or states of emergency. They are madness. Most of them are the consequence of something that was done wrong or not done.

One of my favorite hacks to reduce overwhelm is to remind myself that situations are rarely as intense as they initially seem. I can't tell you how many times I've felt daunted by a new task or challenge, only to find that once I actually did it, it took far less time and effort than I had imagined. As a business owner, I see a lot of newcomers getting overwhelmed by processes they think should be simpler. For all the new business owners out there, or anyone venturing into unfamiliar territory, don't let the perceived difficulty psych you out. Break it down into smaller steps, and you'll often find it's much more manageable than you thought. The intimidation factor is usually worse than the actual work involved.
