This is about increasing transparency on the environmental impact of aviation. This is key in reinforcing the efforts of the aviation industry to decarbonise. Background: EASA initiated a survey in 2019 with feedback received up until 2020. Responses from over 9,500 participants from 18 European Countries gave some clear pointers. 🤔 Only 5% are aware of how much CO2 they use when they travel by air. 💡 80% would like to get environmental information for flights they take.

This year begins with the voluntary carbon market (VCM) taking flight ✈️ The first phase of CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation) has just begun for the aviation industry but its impact will have tailwinds for the whole VCM. 🌐 Why is CORSIA Phase 1 a pivotal milestone? Many airlines and aircraft operators will now need to acquire credits from a select, approved pool, creating a new landscape for credit supply. 💡 Market stakeholders have recognized CORSIA-eligible credits as a benchmark for quality, notably the Integrity Council for the VCM (ICVCM). As a result, we anticipate a surge in attention and demand for CORSIA-approved credits. The Australian government has prioritised decarbonisation of air transport in its newly-released Aviation Green Paper, ‘Towards 2050’ (AGP50), which lays the foundations for the nation’s aviation policy over the next decades, reports Tony Harrington for #GreenAir. The document identifies key issues and calls for industry and public submissions to help shape a long-term strategy, which will be unveiled next year in the government’s Aviation White Paper. AGP50 highlights the importance of sustainable aviation fuel and both electric and hydrogen propulsion technologies in reducing emissions from aircraft operations, while expecting all emitters in the aviation industry – not just airlines – to contribute to net zero commitments.
