Excellent environmental management: Lufthansa Airlines and Lufthansa CityLine receive EMAS seal of approval again 🌱 Lufthansa Airlines and Lufthansa CityLine have once again received the demanding @EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) certification, which sends a strong signal for corporate environmental responsibility at the Frankfurt and Munich locations. Our progressive environmental management system was examined in detail and confirmed by external auditors. An outstanding example of our measures is the "Reduced Engine Taxi-In" procedure, which saves up to 2,750 tons of kerosene annually. The option for passengers on intra-European flights to order meals in advance has also helped to reduce waste. Our planned technology cooperation with the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Airbus, MTU Aero Engines and Munich Airport to promote power-to-liquid (PtL) fuels is forward-looking. This collaboration aims to accelerate the market introduction and industrial scaling of PtL fuels in Germany. We are proud to promote sustainability in aviation and look forward to exchanging ideas with you on these important topics. Save the date, this is going to be really interesting! This is about enabling passengers to make sustainable choices when booking their flights. This is about increasing transparency on the environmental impact of aviation. This is key in reinforcing the efforts of the aviation industry to decarbonise. Background: EASA initiated a survey in 2019 with feedback received up until 2020. Responses from over 9,500 participants from 18 European Countries gave some clear pointers. 🤔 Only 5% are aware of how much CO2 they use when they travel by air. 💡 80% would like to get environmental information for flights they take.

A flying start to the year 😉✈️ Two months ago, I'd never heard of CORSIA. This week, it's all I've been talking about. In this industry, things change all the time and they change quickly. My mantra is: Embrace curiosity! 🧠 But even then, it's hard to know what information is important and which updates to follow. At Sylvera, the team I work with thrives on uncovering the significance behind updates that truly matter in the carbon market. Here's a topic relevant this week, if you're curious hopefully this article helps 👇🌐 #StayCurious #CarbonMarket
This year begins with the voluntary carbon market (VCM) taking flight ✈️ The first phase of CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation) has just begun for the aviation industry but its impact will have tailwinds for the whole VCM. 🌐 Why is CORSIA Phase 1 a pivotal milestone? Many airlines and aircraft operators will now need to acquire credits from a select, approved pool, creating a new landscape for credit supply. 💡 Market stakeholders have recognized CORSIA-eligible credits as a benchmark for quality, notably the Integrity Council for the VCM (ICVCM). As a result, we anticipate a surge in attention and demand for CORSIA-approved credits. Read our latest blog for more on what CORSIA Phase 1 means for the aviation industry and beyond: https://lnkd.in/e3HPY2G9 #AviationIndustry #CORSIA #Sustainability #CarbonCredits

The Australian government has prioritised decarbonisation of air transport in its newly-released Aviation Green Paper, ‘Towards 2050’ (AGP50), which lays the foundations for the nation’s aviation policy over the next decades, reports Tony Harrington for #GreenAir. The document identifies key issues and calls for industry and public submissions to help shape a long-term strategy, which will be unveiled next year in the government’s Aviation White Paper. AGP50 highlights the importance of sustainable aviation fuel and both electric and hydrogen propulsion technologies in reducing emissions from aircraft operations, while expecting all emitters in the aviation industry – not just airlines – to contribute to net zero commitments. Meanwhile, the nation’s largest airline company, the Qantas Group, has said it will increase its SAF commitments to as much as 500 million litres per year from 2028, in partnership with aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing, from which it has just placed firm orders for 24 new widebody jets. #sustainableaviation #sustainableaviationfuel Mark Pilling Qantas Graeme Potger Andrew Parker Boeing Airbus #Australia #AustralianAviation Tom Gallagher

Collaboration and immediate action were main themes from the Aircraft Leasing Ireland Global Aviation Sustainability Day yesterday ✈️ Some highlights: • Lessors are well-placed to encourage sustainable behaviour in the industry, which could include sustainability-linked leases in the future. • There is industry-wide support to develop infrastructure around SAF in Ireland, including new research projects announced. • Compliance with the EU’s ‘Green’ Taxonomy (which brought OEMs, lessors and airlines in scope as of October this year) is complex, but rewarding for those making green investments. #sustainablefinance #aviationfinance
