As of 8/17/23, Go Fly Maui, LLC has resumed flight operations. Nick and I continue to be inspired by the outpouring of love and aloha for our community. Many have asked us how they can best support our island in this time of need. 1. Donate and Volunteer The County of Maui has officially endorsed Hawaii Community Foundation and Maui United Way as places to donate financially. For those on Maui, MauiNuiStrong.info (https://lnkd.in/g-H8RZBa) has a list of current volunteer opportunities. 2. Visit Maui Ilihia Gionson, a spokesman for the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority, said it best. “Tourism is Hawaii’s major economic driver, and we don’t want to compound a horrific natural disaster of the fires with a secondary economic disaster.” In alignment with Governor Josh Green, the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority urges visitors to refrain from going to West Maui (including Lāhainā, Nāpili, Kāʻanapali, and Kapalua) but encourages travelers to consider visiting other areas of Maui (including Kahului, Wailuku, Kīhei, Wailea, Mākena, Pāʻia and Hāna). Our visitor industry accounts for 80 percent of every dollar generated on the island, but there are a great many empty rooms and open tables on the island right now, and we’re all feeling the impact. No, West Maui is not the place to visit right now. The rest of #Hawaii, however, needs your support. Pack compassion. Pack respect. Please visit #Maui. 3. Fly Go Fly Maui is among the many #smallbusinesses feeling the impact of the drop in visitors to the island. If you’re visiting Maui in the weeks ahead, please consider flying with us (https://goflymaui.com for details). The places we fly are far from the impact zone and don’t interfere with operations there. We promise we will take great care of you. If you’re planning to visit Maui at a later date, but don’t yet know when, please consider buying a Go Fly Maui gift certificate by calling (808) 633-5356. The value of these certificates never expires, and you’ll be supporting our small business as we hope for a rebound in tourism. Regardless of how you choose to help, mahalo for your compassion. Our community is grateful for your support. Maui no ka oi. Magen and Nick Moran Owners, Go Fly Maui

🚄✨ Last week's work trip took me on a train journey from London to Berlin, and I'm excited to share my experience! 🌍 At The Carbon Trust, we prioritise sustainability, and this trip was a testament to that commitment. Opting for a train journey—Eurostar to Brussels and a sleeper to Berlin—aligned with our carbon budget and highlighted our dedication to reducing our environmental impact. Choosing the train, despite its higher ticket price compared to flying (which was 64% lower in this case), was a conscious decision. It highlighted a broader issue—why is taking the train often 3-5 times more expensive than flying? As individuals, it can be challenging to front the quintupled cost of train travel. It's time for the cost of flying to reflect its environmental consequences. In this instance, the numbers spoke volumes. A return flight would have released 83% more CO2 than my train journey. It's a stark reminder that the environmental costs associated with flying should be factored into its price. Personally, I enjoyed my train journey. I was able to take as many liquids as I wanted and didn't have to arrive 2-3 hours early to a far away airport! I urge companies to consider the environmental impact of their travel choices. For those interested in exploring train travel options, I found the perfect route through https://www.seat61.com/. It made planning my journey a breeze, and I'm grateful for the resources it provided. Let's continue to champion sustainable choices and work towards a future where responsible travel is accessible to all. 🌿🚆 #Sustainability #TrainTravel #CarbonTrust #EnvironmentallyFriendlyJourney

World Wish Day can beautifully intersect with the theme of travel, creating opportunities to explore new cultures, experiences, and landscapes—often the stuff of dreams for many, especially children facing critical illnesses. Travel can play a pivotal role in fulfilling these dreams, making the day an even more memorable celebration. How to Observe World Wish Day through Travel Grant a Travel Wish For children who dream of visiting far-off places or experiencing new adventures, consider using World Wish Day as an opportunity to make such travel wishes come true. Whether it’s seeing the snow for the first time, visiting Disneyland, exploring the ancient ruins of Egypt, or encountering wildlife on an African safari, travel can be a transformative experience that enriches their lives and provides joyful respite from their challenges. Donate Travel Points or Services If you have airline miles, hotel points, or other travel-related rewards, consider donating them to organizations like the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which can use these resources to help fulfill travel wishes. Travel companies can also participate by offering free or discounted services on this day. Create a Travel-Themed Fundraiser Organize a travel-themed fundraiser to raise money for travel wishes. This could include a dinner featuring cuisines from around the world, a virtual tour of a popular destination with ticket proceeds going to the foundation, or a silent auction featuring travel packages. By integrating travel into World Wish Day observances, we not only broaden the horizons of those whose wishes are granted, but we also enrich our own lives through the joy of giving and the shared experiences of new adventures. This connection emphasizes the boundless potential of kindness and the transformative power of travel to open up new worlds of possibility. #Travelwishes

Luxury travel is usually not eco-friendly and highly unsustainable. This means you travel at the expense of the future generations. It goes beyond the scope of this short post to explain why, if you cannot understand why by yourself. Nevertheless, with just a few compromises, you can still enjoy a fantastic and life-changing trip that not only you, but others too, will remember for life. For example, instead of flying in your personal first-class suite like an Arab billionaire, just because you can afford it, make a difference and fly amongst "ordinary" people. It is only for a few hours after all. Save this money and donate it to a social or environmental project in the visiting country. For your airline company, you are just a number with a fat wallet, but for the people who will receive your donation, you will be a God-sent sponsor, a hero, and a life model. Please, contact us for details on how you can contribute to our sustainability projects as a part of your holidays in Greece. This is a genuine chance to offset your “travel footprint” by supporting one of the projects we recommend. “Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead, where there is no path, and leave a trail.” Ralph Waldo Emerson #sustainabletravelgreece #sustainabilitygreece #greentravelgreece Photo: The first windmill park in Europe was on the island of Crete in the late 20s!

To all our Run the Runways 2024 participants! With the start of #RTR24 only days away we wanted to firstly thank you for supporting the event, but also let you know why Run the Runways is so important. By participating in this years event you are helping Aviation Action to continue to support the #mentalhealth and #wellbeing of those working in #aviation. Aviation Action are a mental health and wellbeing #charity who were incepted during the height of the covid 19 pandemic and continue to explore new ways to support the aviation family. The money raised in this years run the runways will help evolve the Aviation Action app, allowing it to incorporate clinically governed peer to peer support with the help of MindYourself App. We believe that this non-judgemental independent mental health support will be revolutionary in aviation and unlike anything that is currently offered throughout the industry. Admittedly Run the Runways 24 has not come without its challenges. Unfortunately, we have had delays in the processing of event t shirts which has caused us a great deal of anguish, and I know will be frustrating for you, the participants. Please rest assured that we are literally working around the clock to get these out to you as soon as is humanly possible, and thankfully we are starting to see your t shirts arriving and pictures of you wearing them across social media so please stick with us. One of the things we love most about Run the Runways is the way it brings our aviation #community together. We love to see you running in your t shirts and also why each runway is special to you. This year we have teamed up with the amazing teams at AIRDAT Ltd and EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency and will be virtually running across a different European runway each day throughout May. Just to reiterate, we aren’t concerned how you do this, it may be a run on a beach or a walk through the woods, what is important is that you are motivated to get outside, destress and by the end of the month be in a better place mentally and physically than when you started. Below is the calendar for RTR 24. You will see that we start at Chania in Greece. This is because Chania is the closest airport to where Icarus supposedly took flight, therefore felt a symbolic place to start our event. We hope you enjoy Run the Runways 2024, please share your participation across social media to help us continue to promote the importance of mental health and wellbeing support across aviation. See you on the Runways!

✈ 🚢 The UK market for travel, from Office of National Statistics data, represents $76.7 billion spent in 2022 alone. And by the end of 2024, an optimistic projection for outbound tourism would reach 86.9 million trips! And with the European Green Deal pushing for a carbon-neutral continent by 2050, the travel industry is definitely going to need to do its part as it plays a massive part in shaping the planet’s sustainability agenda. Through a blend of innovation and responsibility, the steadily growing industry is striving to minimize its environmental footprint and reimagine how it operates, from embracing fuel-efficient transportation options to adopting eco-friendly practices in accommodations. 🌿 We, at Communities for Nature, want to help “traveling for good” become even easier for people around the world by partnering with Charitable Travel, a unique social enterprise that goes above and beyond the traditional travel agency business model. They focus on purpose over profit, donating surplus profit from all sales to charity; with 5% of the holiday price to the charity of choice. 🏖 🌍 Learn more about our partner Charitable Travel and how you can include Communities for Nature in planning your holiday! https://lnkd.in/gnTagjBj
