On the latest Community Signal with Lincoln Russell, we talked about private equity buying and consolidating online community software platforms. Back in 2017, our conversation with Kim England-Godber focused on consolidation in the enterprise social network space, right after Jive Software was purchased by Aurea Software. Workplace by Facebook was a new product and potentially one that could push the incumbents to innovate. Hence this quote. What is ironic is that, in the 7 years since, Jive was passed to a different parent in the same private equity group, and Facebook has announced that Workplace will end as a product in 2026. Who's better off? Most likely, it's not community managers, association managers, or employee communications pros. Director of White Bicycle | Learning Designer | Top 10 Female Entrepreneur (Telegraph/NatWest) | "One to Watch" (Family Business United) | Top 100 Female Entrepreneur (Small Business Britain)
Really enjoyed the Ctrl Alt Del summit yesterday: a day of brilliant speakers, diverse perspectives, cool tech demos, memorable stories, shocking statistics, and calls to action - all around the themes of accessibility and inclusion. As someone with sight loss, it was interesting and encouraging to hear what some of the biggest tech companies like Microsoft, Google and Miro are doing to make their products more accessible for people like me - and what further developments we might see over the next few years... We all have our own relationship with / perspective on accessibility and inclusion, and unsurprisingly my first thoughts are usually around sight loss, digital accessibility and disability inclusion, because these are the areas closest to my own lived experience and often the main focus in my work too. So I particularly appreciated hearing about other aspects of these topics, like social mobility and digital exclusion. I'll be leaving Truro with lots of notes, useful takeaways and food for thought! Shout-outs to my fellow Top 10 Female Entrepreneur Samantha Jackman - lovely to catch up and your panel session was brilliant, as always! - and my partner-in-crime Tom O., who is not only an excellent chauffeur and photographer (see below) but has also been working with us at White Bicycle Ltd to make our courses even more accessible and inclusive. We've all been there – the dreaded moment when you think your mic is muted, but it's not, and you inadvertently share your secret snack-crunching with the entire meeting. Are you on mute? Or have your colleagues just heard your toddler playing Baby Shark? Thanks to Teams, you won't have to worry anymore. They've added the mute button to the Taskbar to make it easy. Digital Accessibility Manager at BT Group - EE Consumer Digital (Web and Mobile Standards, Universal Design, Best Practice, Digital Accessibility Programme Implementation)
Thanks to Steve Morland and the super team at Leighton for inviting me to participate in this amazing panel at TechNExt(The Tech Festival of the Northeast). I truly enjoyed discussing the subject with Daniel Benmore, Helen Robson , and James Lambert. The audience was also the best. You all made me feel welcome and relaxed. Also, thanks to Hayley Wood for the indication and Holli Taylor for the super organisation. And I couldn't leave out thanking for having a good excuse to visit Newcastle and seeing its stunning architecture. It's a positive development that we are increasingly being given platforms to discuss Digital Accessibility at mainstream events. This shift is a testament to the growing recognition of Digital Accessibility as a professional responsibility and not just a niche concern. We appreciate the work of champions. A good number of Digital Accessibility professionals, including myself, started as champions. But the work of Digital Accessibility professionals is not about being champions. It's a full-time job that demands a deep understanding of various domains, the ability to adapt to changing contexts, and a customer-centric approach that bridges design and engineering. We are a share capability, working collaboratively with every squad and teams. Our goal is to provide solutions that enhance the quality of digital products and ensure inclusivity for all, including people with disabilities. Organisations committed to Digital Accessibility must invest in accessibility by having a team of full-time professionals dedicated to this area. At EE Consumer, we are fortunate to have such a team. They make me proud of their hard work, commitment, resilience, enthusiasm, and cheerfulness - nothing like a good team to turn this rocky and stormy journey into an enjoyable adventure. Our profession lives and breathes on the original principles of the Web of democratising access to information. The web is an essential service, and we ensure that as many people as possible can access it, regardless of any differences. Having a job that gives us this sense of purpose is truly amazing. #a11y #DigitalAccessibility #Accessibility #Technology #North

Starting 2024 off "Concourse-Strong" I have loved being part of a native-remote company in Concourse Global, a part of EAB- and now part of a larger remote-friendly org (EAB... ) But getting to see these folks in person reminds me of just how special this team is- and I chalk that up to a number of things: 1. Daily open zoom room- allowing our team to stay connected and maintain a respectful-casualness to our daily chats. It also means that when we do gather in person, there's no need for intros/ice breakers- and we can dive into the big stuff! 2. Monthly/Quarterly (or weekly, if you're a dev, apparently!) pure fun gatherings. Equate it to a happy hour, if you like- but we love to play skribbl.io or Code Names. 3. Truly talented, mission-driven individuals and solid, foundational leadership. It's gonna be a good year, folks. Let's go!
Our Match team just wrapped up two fantastic days of in-person meetings at the EAB office in Washington, DC! 😍 Spending time collaborating and strategizing has left us feeling energized and excited for 2024. As a fully remote team, we’re grateful for the opportunity to connect face-to-face and strengthen our bonds 💪🏼 Here’s to continued innovation in the new year! 🚀 #TeamWork #Concourse #ReverseAdmissions
