Happy Pride month! I've been trying to write this post for ages, because my relationship with pride has always been odd. I dislike the version of pride that commercialised and has all the rough edges smoothed off. Yes we deserve to celebrate and be happy, but also we can do that in ways that are have less capitalism vibes. This is also a lil introduction/reminder: My name's Gem, I am bisexual and non-binary, and my pronouns are they/them. Let's talk about community. Since being self-employed I've found a lot of community with fellow queer folk. I've done some work with Sparkle (a trans charity), a queer arts market, and I co-work with a MCR based queer co-working group semi-regularly (I want to get back to that being actually regularly soon). Finding this community has been so important - going from working in a tight knit company to working solo was a big change, and being around other folks working has been vital for me. Spending more time around queer folk is important to me on multiple levels. It's a community I want to spend time serving, and engaging with, and being self-employed has given me time and opportunities to do so. It's also nice to feel belonging, and acceptance fully. It's not a place where some people will use my pronouns and some won't, generally. I can assume people will read my pronoun pin and use them. I don't actually mind being misgendered a lot of the time, because I wear dresses and people make assumptions, but being in a space where I can fully expect people to use the correct pronouns without correction is such a relief. This is why community is important, and why I want to support and serve communities where people can be together. Happy Pride, folks.

Grateful to celebrate Pride Month! Homosexuality is 100% normal and natural (no matter what some so called religious/conservative people shall tell you) and such behavior can be found amongst many other animals other than us as great apes! Don't believe me, here are some marine animals, backed by science, who show LGBTQIA behaviors: Marine Mammals: Bottlenose Dolphins: Male pairs bond strongly. Sea Otters: Males cuddle and care for each other. Orcas: Male orcas form loving bonds. Gray Whales: Male gray whales show affection. Marine Birds: Emperor Penguins: Male pairs share parenting duties. Gentoo Penguins: Males look after nests together. Laysan Albatross: Female pairs raise chicks. Marine Reptiles & Invertebrates: Sea Turtles: Show affectionate interactions. Octopuses & Cuttlefish: Engage in same-gender behaviors. Transgender Behaviors: Clownfish, Parrotfish, Wrasses, Groupers, Gobies: Change gender roles to ensure survival of species 🌈💙🐬 picture from one of my RV SA Agulhas2 expeditions

This week we celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week! This week is an opportunity to spread kindness and joy. It is celebrated by individuals, groups, and organizations nationwide to encourage acts of kindness. Not only do the acts of kindness bring joy to the receiver, but they spread positive reactions to the giver, too! "Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end." Here are some ways you can spread kindness today through random acts of kindness! 1. Pay it Backward: buy coffee for the person behind you in line. 2. Compliment the first three people you talk to today. 3. Smile at five strangers. 4. Leave a kind server the biggest tip you can afford. 5. Email or write to a former teacher who made a difference in your life. Choose kindness today! #kindness #joy #celebrate #spreadlove Paving the Way: https://lght.ly/e01n5o1 Random Acts of Kindness Week: https://lght.ly/62i37ja

This week is the Thanksgiving holiday here in the United States. For many, many people, it means a large meal with family (and depending on your interest, perhaps some "family bonding" over some football as well). For queer people, it can be a tricky holiday. Family is so often not supportive, and we can have nowhere to spend it or if we do spend time with family, we can be subjected to hateful comments or non-acceptance. (For me, I just stay home and my brother-in-law and sister-in-law come down with our nephews.) For all my white, cisgender, heterosexual people who aren't rejected solely due to who they are, please remember that if you are sitting at the dinner and Uncle Al starts ranting about people being 'woke' or Aunt Jennie makes fun of trans kids and you stay silent, you are just as much of the problem as they are. By letting them remain comfortable with their hate and refusing to take on the discomfort that queer people deal with every day, you are perpetuating the system that oppresses us all. There is no easy out. Hate must be challenged by everyone every time it pops it head up. Kick them out of your home if you are hosting, even in the middle of pie. Walk away from the table if it's not your house. If people that aren't impacted by the hate cant take those basic steps when it's called for, then society will never get better. #Thanksgiving #SayNoToHate #TransRightsAreHumanRights

Pride Month is a time to stand together, celebrate diversity, and show that love is love. 🏳️🌈 Why Showing Support Matters: Visibility Equals Empowerment: Your support empowers those who see it, knowing they are accepted and celebrated. Fostering Inclusion: Promoting an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected. Starting Conversations: Simple gestures can spark meaningful conversations about equality, acceptance, and the importance of being an ally. Building Community: Being part of a global movement, standing in solidarity with the LGBTQIA community. Supporting Change: Contributing to support LGBTQIA causes and organizations, driving real, positive change. The Power of Pride Merch: Wearing Pride merch shows your support in a visible way, helping to increase awareness and spread the message of love and acceptance. Get Involved: Show your true colours this Pride Month. Together, we can create a world where everyone feels seen, heard, and loved. 🌈✨

It's time we began pushing boundaries to build an environment that's more accepting and loving. An environment where inclusivity feels natural, and isn't looked at as a privilege. It's time we started looking beyond these boundaries to spark conversations, which in turn create real-world impact. Cos closets are for clothes, not for identities. Couldn't have gone through this rollercoaster of a project without the help of the beautiful humans at Leo Burnett and IKEA. Team Leo Burnett: Rajeev Rakshit Bhawana C. Keerthi Kumar.R Anahita Brar Ananya Samantaray PRAVIN SUTAR Sandeep V Maudgal Iyer jamuna poovaiah Sanjeev Tripathi Niharika Mishra Natasha Khubchandani Sarjit Talwar Akhil Malshet Team IKEA: Kasturi Lal Abhishek Dutta Abhishek Jotwani Jayendra Gupta Chandan M Punita Dialani
This Pride Month, let the silence in the closet spark a conversation. Biases, often unspoken, can create invisible walls that isolate the LGBTQIA community. Let's listen, learn, and build bridges of understanding. Because closets are for clothes, not for identities. #PrideMonth #IKEA

Most of our worldly problems could be solved by embodying one simple word: Kindness. Would solve: World hunger. Houselessness. Racism. Homophobia. War. The list goes on. If everyone approached the world with a core value of kindness, imagine where humanity would be today. I want to express my gratitude to many of you who approach me with kindness. On a regular basis, I receive direct messages from a few of my core supporters on this platform. You know who you are. Your messages are incredibly uplifting and cherished by me. Thank you for your kindness. May we all have a day filled with kindness towards others. From a business perspective, my key to excelling with customers and maintaining a lifelong career in customer service has always revolved around the act of kindness. Not only is it the right thing to do, but it also makes you better at most things in this world. Cheers, Layton #kindness #lgbtqia #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealth #customersuccess
