As International Women's Day draws near, Boston Consulting Group (BCG) unveils a compelling report. Surveying 6,500 tech professionals, the findings highlight a striking trend: senior women in tech are adopting GenAI at a rate 14 percentage points higher than their male counterparts. This made me wonder what makes senior women in tech embrace GenAI at such a high rate, so I was reflecting about my own experience:  1. GenAI is a technology that is uniquely broad in its applicability in our daily lives. From finding insights faster to analysing data much more efficiently to generating solid first drafts of copy or visualizations, it has real impact on our daily lives and is not tech that lives “behind the scenes”. I suspect that its broad relevance drives the enthusiasm of female leaders. 2. Because of the potential of GenAI for wide-ranging applications, it requires a great sense of responsibility by leaders to work out how they want their teams to use it, and how they can ensure that no unintentional harm is caused. I suspect that female leaders are particularly keen on shaping the way those around them use the technology to make sure it has a positive impact on how we engage with one another. I am excited about the GenAI work we do with leaders - not just women - across the globe and across all industry sectors, ensuring it creates a positive wave of change and proactively identifying and tackling the inherent risks! #IWD2024 #InspireInclusion #GenerativeAI #WomenInTech

This perspective is informed by the Founder's scholarly research on the intersections of creativity, innovation, and foresight. Our Think Tank brings together diverse perspectives and backgrounds and bridges industry with academia: Founder and Chair: Dr. Evy Sakellariou SFHEA, FIKE, FCIM Founding Members: Dr Georgette Banham; Emma Blackley; Gina Connell (FCIM CMKtr); Clare Kemsley; Karen Kerr FCIM; Michelle Medhat; Efi Naskou FCIM; Valia Sakkou; Anasol Peña-Rios, PhD SMIEEE; Madeleine Storr New insights from the Think Tank 'Deep Dive' at Kingston Business School: Structural Mechanisms ·        Organisational Processes: Lack of structural governance and compliance mechanisms; moreover, 45% of women managers and leaders are still not using Gen AI missing the opportunity to fill the leadership pipeline. ·        Roles and Responsibilities: Lack of clarity regarding the roles of humans and machines in Gen AI integration within organisations, particularly concerning the role of women leaders within this emerging ecosystem. Procedural Mechanisms ·        Strategy: Lack of Gen AI domain-specific strategy design and implementation. ·        Perception: Misunderstandings or complete unawareness of Gen AI's capabilities and outputs are common, mainly among non-users or light Gen AI users such as women leaders from non-STEM backgrounds. ·        Undercover Usage: At this early stage, Gen AI usage may occur in hiding/implicitly within the organisations. Relational Mechanisms ·        Concerns and Fears: Challenges of leadership (and women in particular) understanding and building knowledge in Gen AI due to fear of the unknown; or fear of cheating, and lack of confidence or trust, albeit women leaders are more open to getting advice and learning from experts. ·        Training: There is a call for educational initiatives to help women, understand and engage with Gen AI technologies more deeply and build future skills including Gen AI strategy design and implementation; Gen AI communication briefing; and editing; foresight literacy; collaboration between humans and machines. ·        Ethical Considerations: Although women are generally more empathetic and purpose-driven, thus have the potential to shape Gen AI for a better future for their organisations and themselves, there is a lack of knowledge on how to integrate and monitor human-centred and purpose-driven values in Gen AI agents and systems.
