Let's talk about why personal #values are so damn important for leaders. You can have two people with the same pot of money. And their values are going to lead to different choices, different impacts and different personal brands. Case in point: Jeff Bezos and MacKenzie Scott. Both are billionaires. Very different values. He is known for building an empire at Amazon. She will be known for leaving a legacy. What values might you extrapolate from their choices? And for reflection: • What are YOUR top personal values? • Are they reflected on your calendar and credit card statements? If not, think about how you might create more congruency so you can "walk the walk" like MacKenzie is doing. #valuesbasedleadership #intentionalleadership https://lnkd.in/ey5F5FJE

Human-centered Leadership Coach | Keynote Speaker | Wellness Consultant Building adult cultures we don't need to heal from | Retaining educators through identity-forward programs
"Fewer people, especially people of color, want to lead nonprofits." 👀 ✊🏾 So appreciated this piece that Venu Gupta elevated! I'm incredibly happy at The Teaching Well. In fact, it's the first time in my career that I have felt truly valued for my leadership. What's more, I work with a phenomenal team and Board who are Pro-Black and Pro-Indigenous. That being said, there were many resonant points. I love the concrete suggestions that Venu lifted. I have a few additional offerings to contribute: 💡 Provide resources for, encourage, and find ways to sustain additional benefits for supporting leaders in the organization. Just as with schools, thriving Principals typically have a highly effective VP or Dean. When your ED needs to take a sabbatical or leave, the essential work of the nonprofit will continue. Shout out to Marisol Pineda Conde and Rebecca Bernard for standing by me! 💡Speaking of a #sabbatical - generate policies and secure funding for your ED to rejuvenate on, at minimum, a biennial basis. While benefits such as therapy are essential, they release the pressure valve, but you also need to invest in more robust rest structures. 💡If you are hiring them to turn around, rebrand, or start over the organization... TELL THEM. I know it's scary, but if they consent into the complex change management and systems (re)creation work needed, they are more likely to stay. #transparency is 🗝! 💡Prior to hiring a new ED, especially if things are tumultuous for the organization, task Board and/or staff members with organizing a crisis team. Get a lawyer, systems consultant, PR specialist, etc. on deck- open a contract with them, even if you don't yet have concrete asks - it makes seeking support more sustainable and efficient for your incoming ED. 💡Especially if you are hiring a BIPOC ED, mandate trainings for Board and staff members to ensure they are prepared to receive the diverse hire. It isn't good enough to find a stale implicit bias training or have them watch HR videos. Contract a rigorous, relevant consulting firm (hit us up!) that facilitates targeted sessions on Black Bias, Indigenous erasure, communicating across difference, etc. #nonprofitleadership #sustainability #bipoc #retentionstrategies #wellness #prevention #transparency #boarddevelopment #healing
Fewer people, especially people of color, want to lead nonprofits. The Building Movement Project's recent study found "executive directors of color continue to report less support from boards and staff than their white peers. For example, 70 percent of white executive directors said they had strong support from their board when they entered their positions compared with just 49 percent of leaders of color." Add this to the uphill battle leaders of color face in getting institutional giving relative to their white peers. Nonprofit leadership, especially for leaders of color, has become an almost impossible job that often drowns out the personal and professional benefits gained from being deeply engaged in mission-driven work. Here are 6 ways to make things better for leaders of color: ✅ Do the internal work of figuring out where a leader of color may have challenges even before they arrive, with you or with the organization. And, make the changes you need to, not for a person, but because it's who you want to be. ✅ Pay them exceptionally well. Nonprofit leaders of color often work in spaces where they are fighting for their community's right to have the same freedoms, rights, economic stability, and status in society as those in the majority. The emotional toll is incalculable, and our country and world would be so much worse off without this sacrifice. Pay them like our lives - and values - depend on it, because they do. ✅ Make sure the board and staff are prepared to support a leader of color when they come in, i.e. ensure your organization is inclusive before you ask someone else to "fix" it. ✅ Have a plan in place to build the relationship between the Board Chair and the new leader, i.e. don't leave it to chance or chemistry. ✅ Provide leaders of color with access to premium mental health care - therapists, psychiatrists, coaches, shamans, acupuncturists, and other healers. What works for you might not work for them - so give them flexibility in how they sustain themselves. ✅ Connect leaders of color with the breadth and depth of your networks, go above and beyond. Invest in their success beyond any one organization or project. We all do better when we all do better. Please repost and share if you think the above is useful. Thank you! #myposts #leadersofcolor #coaching #bipoc #coachesofcolor

📢 Announcement: Introducing diontegrey.com - Inspiring Leaders and Encouraging Social Change Dear friends and supporters, I am thrilled to announce the launch of my newly published website, diontegrey.com! This platform has been a long time in the making, and I am excited to share it with all of you. Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to engage in numerous #speakingengagements, and it has been an incredible experience for me. Through these engagements, I have had the privilege of inspiring young leaders while further #empowering those who are already working tirelessly to make a difference. #Speaking has become an avenue for me to raise awareness about topics and issues that I am truly passionate about. Additionally, I am eager to share the knowledge I have gained through my ten years of #nonprofit experience and my extensive research and work in Diverse Community Development Leadership at the master's level. Beyond the impact on the audience, speaking engagements also play a crucial role in supporting my work. As my wife and I work full-time as #missionaries in a young nonprofit, we rely heavily on private donations from individuals to sustain our efforts. Thus, the revenue generated from these speaking engagements is essential for both our family and our nonprofit organization to continue making a difference. As you may know, my wife and I founded UrbanPromise Los Angeles in 2019, an incredible organization working to support underserved #youth in low-income communities. By booking me for a speaking engagement, not only will you benefit from an enlightening and inspiring session, but you will also directly contribute to the mission of UrbanPromise Los Angeles. To further demonstrate our commitment to this cause, we are pleased to announce that a portion of the revenue generated from every speaking engagement will be donated directly to UrbanPromise Los Angeles. Here's where you can make a significant impact: We aim to book at least 12 speaking engagements throughout #2024, and we need your support to achieve this goal. I kindly ask you to help me by: 1️⃣ Share my website, diontegrey.com, across your networks, spreading the word about my speaking engagements and the value I bring to any event or gathering. 2️⃣ Share any relevant speaking opportunities at #conferences, #churches, #schools, or any other platforms that would benefit from my unique perspective. Your connections and recommendations are invaluable! 3️⃣ Mention my name, Dionte Grey, to anyone seeking speakers for their events. A simple word-of-mouth recommendation can go a long way in supporting my mission. By doing so, you'll actively contribute to the mission of UrbanPromise Los Angeles, while simultaneously empowering and inspiring individuals through the power of spoken word. Thank you for your continuous support, and together, let's make a lasting difference! With hope, Dionté Grey Website: https://lnkd.in/ghsVeKFG
