LS Cable & System has signed a contract with Belgian power company ELIA to supply submarine cables worth approximately KRW 280 bn for the world's first artificial energy island. This landmark project, Princess Elisabeth Island, is being constructed in the North Sea, about 45 km off the coast of Belgium, and is set to revolutionize the way renewable energy is managed and distributed. Our submarine cables will play a crucial role in the island's function, which is to store, distribute, and manage electricity generated from a 3.5GW offshore wind farm. Once completed in 2030, Princess Elisabeth Island will serve as a hub for regulating energy supply between the mainland, the UK, and Denmark. We will be the first cable manufacturer to gain experience in constructing submarine cables for an artificial energy island. As the project progresses, LS C&S's involvement will likely pave the way for future opportunities in the renewable energy sector, and contributing to the ongoing transition towards sustainable energy solutions. Norwegian company Deep Wind Offshore has applied to develop and operate the Erik Segersäll floating offshore wind project outside Stockholm, Sweden. This project will be a significant step towards sustainable energy production in the Baltic Sea. Knut Vassbotn, CEO of Deep Wind Offshore, stated: “After three years in the Swedish market, we are very pleased to have submitted applications for one fixed and one floating project. We have already reached an important milestone in the first project, which confirms our strong pipeline.” The Erik Segersäll project, aims to supply electricity to consumers on the mainland and Gotland. The wind farm is expected to have an installed output of 4.5GW and the capability to produce up to 19.5TWh annually. During the first phase it will generate around 6.5TWh, equivalent to the total annual electricity consumption of Stockholm. Deep Wind Offshore's second application for offshore wind in Sweden, Erik Segersäll, is strategically important for the company, as Sweden represents a key market. 🆕🏗️ Exciting news from Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners! The company announced the launch of Copenhagen Energy Islands (CEI), a new development venture dedicated to energy island projects. CEI will build on the success of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and its experience in offshore wind development. Copenhagen Energy Islands is currently developing a portfolio of around 10 energy island projects around the North Sea, the Baltic Sea and South-East Asia. ⚡🏝️ Why are energy islands important? Energy islands will play a key role in Europe’s future energy system. They pool the electricity generated from nearby clusters of wind farms. They can host equipment to enable the system integration of electricity from #offshorewind into the grid. They can provide #storage solutions. And they bundle offshore grid connections and reduce the number of onshore landing points. All of this leads to a more efficient and optimised use of maritime space and a better alignment of offshore wind generation with onshore #energy demand. 🌊 Today I joined the North Seas Energy Cooperation Summit in The Hague. 🌍 Ministers, secretaries of states, the energy commissioner, fellow colleagues and I discussed the ambitious goal of achieving over 300 GW of offshore renewable energy by 2050 – that's 2/3 of Europe's total offshore energy. Today, the focus was on turning this vision into reality. Together with Sonya Twohig I gave a preview of the Offshore Network Development Plan for the North Seas, outlining plans for a robust offshore electricity grid. Key points: 🔗 50 GW of offshore hybrid interconnections are needed for a meshed offshore grid by 2050. 📊 Integrated long-term grid planning involves offshore electricity infrastructure and electrolysis. 💨 Offshore wind agenda is key for predictability and cost reduction. When building offshore grid connections, 2050 is like next month, 2040 next week, and 2030 tomorrow. Let’s get into actions and the nitty grid-ty details so to say and show courage to build together the green powerhouse of Europe in the North Sea. Thanks to Rob Jetten and his team for organizing. 👏 #NSEC2023 #ENTSOE #OffshoreRenewables #Collaboration

The Baltic Assembly and the Baltic Council of Ministers recently convened a conference titled ‘Energy Future of the Baltic States: Addressing Regional Challenges Together’, highlighting the critical role of regional cooperation in enhancing energy independence and integrating renewable energy sources. Andrius Kupčinskas, Head of the Seimas Delegation to the Baltic Assembly, emphasized the importance of cross-border infrastructure and cooperation to improve energy security. These projects require interconnections among the Baltic States and with Scandinavian and Central European countries. https://lnkd.in/gBvBGMZ5 #RenewableEnergy #EnergySecurity #OffshoreWind #BalticStates #EnergyTransition #SustainableEnergy #ClimateChange #RegionalCooperation #EnergyIndependence #GreenEnergy #WindEnergy #BalticSea

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Flexens, and Lhyfe have formed a partnership for the development and construction of an integrated energy island solution enabling large-scale offshore wind, green hydrogen production, and other locally anchored value-creating activities on Åland, an autonomous region of Finland, situated off the southwest coast of Finland. The ambition of this project is to develop large-scale hydrogen production on the Åland Islands, integrated with gigawatt-scale offshore wind in Åland waters for use both on Åland and in the wider European region, thereby supporting Åland’s and the EU’s objectives for energy security and decarbonisation. Integrating offshore wind and green hydrogen production will provide Åland with a route to market for the untapped wind resources around Åland, positioning Åland as a key player in the green transition for the wider region. The exact configuration of the Åland Energy Island project will be developed in close coordination with the local government and other local stakeholders to maximize the benefits for Åland. #wind #hydrogen #greenhydrogen #projects #finland Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners Flexens Oy Ab Lhyfe

National Grid has officially launched its record-breaking Viking Link interconnector cable between the UK and Denmark, in what it says is the “next step towards a North Sea super-grid”. Running from Lincolnshire to Jutland in Denmark, the 475 mile-long land and subsea cable connects the British and Danish energy grids for the first time. The £1.8bn project commenced operations in December last year, and is now the longest land and subsea cable in the world. The Viking Link allows renewable wind power to be shared between the North Sea neighbours, with around 1,733 GWh of power already transported via the cable. National Grid said with both countries set to become “hubs of clean energy in Europe”, the UK and Denmark will act as cornerstone nations for the long-mooted North Sea “super grid“. The interconnector will also help the Danish and British power grids to balance the “peaks and troughs” of renewable electricity supply as the share of wind generated power continues to grow, National Grid said. National Grid chief executive officer John Pettigrew said physical connections between countries are central to the international collaboration underpinning the energy transition. #energytransition #vikinglink #uk #denmark #electricgrid #interconnectors #northseasupergrid #worldgrid #worldgameworkshop #nationalgrid
