Conscious Oncologist l Virtual Practice Specializing in Healing Root Causes of Cancer & Disease l Born to Heal Podcast l TedX Speaker
When I left my job as a radiation oncologist, I knew I wanted to create a practice on my terms. I wanted to do what was best for my patients, not what an antiquated health system dictated. I had no idea how I was going to do that and to be honest, it was pretty scary to leave the comfy confines of conventional medicine. Not everyone believed I could do it, either. But I believed in myself. I spent the past few years learning and preparing for my new practice of medicine. It wasn’t easy, and it probably looked like I was headed toward disaster for those who watched from the sidelines. But because I believed in myself, it is now happening! I am practicing medicine on my terms and serving people in a new and meaningful way. I got this mug a few years ago. I loved the sentiment when I got it, but it certainly has more meaning. When people say something is impossible or that I can’t do something. Now I say, “Actually, I can!” If I can do this, then you can do what you want too. The next time someone says you can’t do something, I dare you to tell them, “Actually, I can.”

Interventional radiologists are modern healthcare heroes, but their work comes with risks. Fluoroscopically guided procedures have revolutionized medicine, but they can expose both patients and medical staff to radiation. Our mission at RADPAD® Radiation Protection is to ensure the safety and well-being of these dedicated professionals. A joint guideline from the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society of Europe and the Society of Interventional Radiology emphasizes the importance of occupational radiation protection for interventional radiologists. The risks are real, with concerns about cancer and cataracts, but more recently showing risks of anxiety and depression. Don't let your job increase your risk of developing adverse health effects! At RADPAD® Radiation Protection, we're committed to providing the tools and equipment needed for occupational radiation protection. #RADPAD® shields are designed to minimize scatter radiation exposure during procedures, protecting the health of both patients and healthcare workers. We stand by our interventional radiologists and their teams, supporting them in their vital work while keeping them safe from the hidden dangers of radiation. 👩🏻⚕️Picture this : The hospital corridor, typically bustling with the hum of healthcare professionals moving about, was momentarily engulfed in an eerie silence. The radiology team wheeled in the portable #xray machine for an urgent patient scan. It was an ordinary event, or so we thought. But as the X-ray technician triggered the machine, the whole floor seemed to vanish beneath our feet. It was a surprising yet concerning incident to witness. That unforgettable moment served as an awakening, a vivid reminder of just how critical #radiationprotection #education is for healthcare providers: 1. Unnecessary Panic and Disruption 💫 : Abruptly vacating an area when an X-ray machine is in use can lead to chaos and confusion. It creates unnecessary panic among staff, patients, and visitors. 2. Risk of Mishaps 🤹♂️: The act of abruptly leaving a designated area can potentially lead to mishaps, such as tripping or collisions, which could result in injuries to both healthcare providers and patients. 3. Compromised Patient Care 📉 : Leaving patients unattended or interrupting ongoing procedures can compromise patient care and safety. 4. Lack of Understanding 👩🏫 : Reacting with alarm to an X-ray machine reflects a lack of understanding of radiation safety protocols. ✅ WHAT TO DO : 1. Education and Training 📚 : All healthcare providers should receive comprehensive education and training in radiation safety. This includes understanding the purpose of radiation-based procedures, safety protocols, and the principles of #distance , #shielding , and #time. 2. Following Safety Protocols 📜 : Robust safety #protocols and practices should be firmly in place and followed rigorously. This includes maintaining a safe distance from radiation sources, utilizing appropriate shielding, and adhering to time limits for exposure. 3. Communicating with Patients 🗣 : Effective #communication with patients is essential. Healthcare providers should inform patients about any radiation-based procedures, explaining their purpose, risks, and benefits to alleviate concerns and foster trust. I'd like to extend a special acknowledgment to Professor Stathis Efstathopoulos and Assistant Professor Kalliopi (Pola) PLATONI for their outstanding contribution to fostering a culture of radiation awareness through their course on “Radiation Protection” at Ethnikon kai Kapodistriakon Panepistimion Athinon , Nursing Department.

Dear Connections, Here am going to share about "Trauma Radiography" *Trauma is defined as a severe injury or damage to the body caused by an accident or violence. The imaging studies done for trauma patients is known as Trauma Radiography. *The Main role of Radiographer in Trauma Radiography is to perform quality diagnostic imaging procedures as requested. *Practice ethical Radiation protection for self, patient and other personnel. *Provide Competent patient care. *Adaptation of technique includes Trans lateral position of the patient in which horizontal beam is passed into the patient and image receptor is kept vertically against the patient. *Use mobile Radiography units in Trauma Radiography. *The best practices in trauma Radiography includes Speed, accuracy, Quality, Positioning and immobilization. *ALARA principle is followed to achieve Radiation Protection. *Essential patient care should be provided to the patient.Radiographers should constantly assess the patients condition and if any change in the status of the patient immediately the Radiographer should report to the attending physician. #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #snsdesignthinking
