There is so much confusion about how best to hire and retain the talented pool of individuals that have been impacted by the criminal justice system. It's time that we focused on the facts. Resetting the Record: The Facts on Hiring People with Criminal Histories is a great step in setting the "record" straight and goes a long way to educating employers, correctional staff, human resource specialists, and the general public about misconceptions that keep employers from hiring and retaining justice impacted talent. The landscape of law enforcement recruitment has shifted dramatically. Not long ago, there was an oversupply of police officers, making it tough to secure a position. Many officers had to apply to multiple departments, just hoping to get a foot in the door. Today, the tables have turned. Departments are now struggling to find qualified candidates and are often forced to lower their standards to fill vacancies. Officers, the power is in your hands. Take the time to research potential departments, talk to fellow officers, and choose an environment that values you—not just as an employee, but as a person. Look for a department that supports your physical, mental, and financial well-being. In this new era, finding the right fit is crucial. You deserve to be in a place that appreciates your dedication and commitment. #LawEnforcement #PoliceOfficers #CareerAdvice #WellBeing #FinancialFreedom

I've noticed a concerning trend in application processes that warrants discussion. I want to share a personal decision regarding my application approach to foster transparency and constructive dialogue. I have decided not to apply for any positions requiring submitting my full address and asking for my whole SSN or last four at the initial application stage. While I understand the need for detailed information post-job offers for background checks and onboarding, requesting such sensitive data upfront raises significant privacy concerns. The digital age has made data security more critical than ever, and I am cautious about where and how my personal information is shared. I urge all employers to consider the implications of their data collection practices and to find a balance that respects candidates' privacy while meeting the organization's needs. My decision to prioritize companies that handle applicant data securely and respectfully reflects my belief in setting a standard that protects personal information. #JobApplication #DataPrivacy #HumanResources #DigitalSecurity

In 2019 60% of employers, who answered a Solas poll, said they were willing to hiring a candidate with a criminal history if supported to do so. Acknowledging there is an appetite for information and guidance on this, the Open Doors Initiative produced a research-informed guidance for employers to best understand how they can remove barriers to employment. The Open Doors Initiative (ODI) launched their latest toolkit today - An "Employer’s Toolkit for Inclusive Hiring of People with Convictions." #Employment has been identified as one of the key tools in reducing recidivism rates, improving the lives of those with a criminal history and as a result creating safer communities. However, we know from our own work and research carried out by others that people with convictions face multiple barriers to employment. Download their toolkit here https://lnkd.in/e7-2W5pM
