We find ourselves amidst a housing crisis exacerbated by local city councils yielding to NIMBY interests, failing to show the political courage needed to enact necessary change. This has perpetuated the greatest generational inequity in history. To address this, we must streamline bureaucratic processes, accelerate approvals, foster denser developments around transit hubs and major roads, and promote "missing middle" housing options. Simultaneously, we are witnessing a surge in criminal activity, from burglaries to car thefts and gun violence. Our discussions around transit fail to adequately tackle this pressing issue. Congestion worsens, distractions abound with populist but economically unsound proposals, while inefficiencies persist and taxes climb. Where is the visionary leadership for a brighter tomorrow? Drawing upon 24 years of immersion in Mississauga's community, I have actively contributed to its progress. From co-chairing the Mississauga Summit and leading the Mississauga Arts Council to engaging in grassroots campaigning and advocating for civic causes through Transit Alliance, my commitment to our city runs deep. "The past cannot be changed; the future is still in your power." - #HughWhite Unfortunately, going to work can cause fear and anxiety for many individuals. However, it is a common occurrence, and people should have confidence that they will be protected from bullying or retaliation. Working is a fundamental part of life for most of us, but being able to do so in a safe environment should never be a second thought. As the old saying goes, "safety first," which is often shouted by corporations. However, most reviews based on internal audits, policy, and practice usually rate safety far lower, safety coming in at the 9th objective in strategy and operations.

What I’m reading: On incremental development, “Gradual progress, through local pilots and demonstrations that build trust (and results) along the way, is better than top-down transformations. It’s an approach that emphasizes small-scale projects led by average citizens who have a passion for community development and prioritizes removing the regulations that might thwart them, so that someone who is, say, constructing a cottage in their backyard doesn’t have to go through the same process as a mega-developer.” #pahousingchoices
