I’m honored to be featured on the Life at Amazon Web Services (AWS) blog to share my entrepreneurial journey and passion for bringing new "Think Big" ideas to life. I share my story and all the steps that brought me to #AWS. I reflect on the transition from founder and CEO to an AWS Vice President, and how the entrepreneurial spirit that drove me at my company, LogFire, is also very much alive here. Our Leadership Principles, vision, and solutions motivate and empower builders like me to continuously innovate on behalf of our customers. While AWS operates at a much larger scale, we maintain the speed, agility, and the bias for action cultivated in startup environments. We aren’t afraid to take calculated risks, embrace failures as part of the invention process, and rapidly pivot based on customer feedback to deliver impactful solutions. This entrepreneurial culture paired with the breadth of AWS services is incredibly energizing! Jeff Bezos is the perfect Agilist! Yes, I know that he is one of the greatest CEOs that ever step on the face of the earth but his life journey and decisions make him also one of the best in other aspects as well. When Bezos was 10 years old, he traveled in a car with his grandfather and grandmother. His grandmother was a chain smoker and it bothered him, so he made a quick calculation in his head. He said to her: “if every cigarette took three minutes off your life, and you smoke three packs a day, you’ve taken nine years off your life.” When she heard that she started to cry. She knew that young Bezos was right, but it was hard to hear it from him. His grandfather stopped the car immediately. He took him outside the car and said to him: “Jeffrey, it’s so much easier to be clever than it is to be kind.” Jeff was stunned and he never forgets that moment and base on that experience he said: “I don’t always get every decision right, but my heart is in the right place”. When Bezos was 30, he was already part of the management at a finance firm, but he’d already made up his mind to change direction in his life. He went to his boss and said he was quitting to launch an online bookstore. His boss said, “I would normally say go for it — if you didn’t already have a good job.” Jeff Bezos imagined himself at 80. He asked himself, “Would the 80-year-old me regret not launching Amazon?” And it became an obvious choice for him. In his 40s he implemented some ideas that turned Amazon into one of the most agile companies in the world. The work there is done with small, integrated autonomous multidisciplinary teams, known at Amazon as “two-pizza teams”. Means that a team that you lead in principle feed with two pizzas. 🍕 🍕 The Two-Pizza Teams are independent and organized around capabilities and services to projects and improve through sprints. Bezos always loves to take risks and be a customer oriented. Those things were well implemented from management to the teams. We, as an Agile leaders can learn a lot from the life of Jeff Bezos, his experience, decision making and much more. #decisionmaking #leadership #agilemindset #agilecoach #agile #team

How Amazon Keeps Breakthrough Ideas Alive 💡 And it costs $0… 👉 It’s called: ‘’Multiple Paths to YES’’ ←↑→ Corporate hierarchy can be a barrier to innovation. It's typically a path of gates. Imagine a customer service agent comes up with a fantastic new idea that they want to try. They have to convince their boss, and their boss’s boss, etc. ⚠️ Any 'NO' in that chain can kill the whole idea. 🚀 Alternatively, think about the startup model... You go to the 1st VC: they say 'NO' ❌ Then to the next VC.. They say 'NO' ❌❌  You can get 20 'NO’s.. ❌❌❌ ..and one YES, and you’re in business. ✅ And so the VC model is Multiple Paths to YES. The 20 'NO’s' don’t matter in a larger company - but you do need multiple paths to yes. Amazon provides multiple paths to yes by allowing 'Press Releases from the Future' to be presented to any leader who can provide support for the idea. To proceed, you only need the YES from that one leader. And the format creates a simple, standard interface for putting ideas in play. Last week i came across a quote of Jeff Bezos where he said: “ In today’s era of volatility, there is no other way but to re-invent. The only sustainable advantage you can have over other is agility, that’s it. ” True words! I had the incredible opportunity to attend an entrepreneurship class led by Mr. Ayush Gupta, Senior Product Manager at Amazon. His session on product management was both inspiring and insightful, offering practical strategies that are applicable across industries. Not just the theory —he shared real-life stories from his own journey, highlighting the highs and lows of bringing a product to market. He walked us through the critical steps of identifying a market need, developing a product that resonates, and refining it until it perfectly fits the market.
