Thank you to FORCE BLUE Ocean Conservation School (OCS) for leading a service-based cleanup of the Juno Beach Pier! 🇺🇸🎣 OCS gives children from Gold Star families, as well as families of wounded and/or severely injured service members, the unique opportunity to connect with each other as they learn to connect with the ocean. We were honored to host this program at LMC for the very first time and to take part in inspiring the next generation of conservationists. #junobeachpier #loggerheadmarinelifecenter #lmc #underwatercleanup #goldstarfamilies #goldstarchildren #oceanconservationschool #FORCEBLUE

🌊✨ URGENT CALL TO ACTION! ✨🌊 Friends, we need YOUR help to safeguard Oregon's Marine Reserves Program! Our coastal treasures, the Marine Reserves and Protected Areas, are vital to climate resilience, species preservation, and habitat conservation. 🌿🐠 These underwater parks intertwine conservation, science, research, and community engagement, managing our ocean resources for a sustainable future. Unfortunately, Oregon’s legislative budget for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, which administers the Marine Reserve Program, has made significant cuts to the program’s budget and staffing. Further, the 2023 Marine Reserve decadal science and social review calls for increased investments in these specific areas to support community engagement and resilience to climate change stressors in our ocean. 🌟 How You Can Help: 📣 Spread the Word: Share this post and raise awareness about the threats facing Oregon's Marine Reserves. 📝 Contact Legislators: Reach out to your representatives, urging them to restore funding for the Marine Reserve Program. Use this template to submit your comment 👉 https://lnkd.in/gDFaKw4V 🤝 Community Action: Support local initiatives and join events advocating for the protection of our oceans and coast. 🌊 Oregon’s Marine Reserves and Protected Areas must be preserved for future generations. 🌍💙 Your voice matters, and together, we can make a difference! 🌿🦀 📸: Cape Perpetua Collaborative #SaveOurMarineReserves #ProtectOurOceans #ClimateResilience 🌊✊

Many of us are best acquainted with our oceans from our perspective on the beach, where shorebirds, like the Wilson’s Plover, skitter about and Black Skimmers fly overhead, as illustrated here by Chris Vest. We can hardly imagine the vastness of the world's oceans, much less experience them as a seabird does, traveling thousands of miles over open water each year. But oceans are much more than the tiny slivers most of us experience at their edges. Oceans — from sandy beaches to deep-sea environments — are habitats. Support ABC's Marine Program in our efforts to research and implement strategies for seabird and shorebird conservation by visiting https://bit.ly/46jcl9v.

Our documentary "The Arctic: Our Last Great Wilderness" allowed audiences to connect with the Arctic's untamed wilderness and its diverse wildlife. It showcased the urgency of preserving this unique ecosystem and respecting the cultural heritage of Alaska Natives. 💙 Together with the movie, we launched an action campaign, where anyone could join! Every voice counted; millions of letters were delivered focusing on protecting the Arctic. ⏩ Fast-forward to today: The Biden administration has taken significant steps to protect the Arctic. They recently cancelled Trump-era oil and gas leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and proposed protections for the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska. These decisions are a testament to the power of public awareness and advocacy. 💪 "The Arctic: Our Last Great Wilderness" has its part in mobilizing public opinion and inspiring action. This is a reminder that we all have the ability to drive positive change, whether through art, advocacy, or simply by raising our voices for causes that matter. 🌎💙 🎬 Haven’t watched the documentary yet? Have you heard about the Willamette River algae bloom? Oregon State University researchers, like Desiree Tullos, are working to understand the ecology of the Ross Island Lagoon, and it's harmful impact on our community. OSU has joined with other nonprofit, public and private partners to chart a path toward a solution. Watch the full video to see how we are saving a river. #engineering #climatesolutions

Rivers were meant to ebb and flow. Nature depends on that rhythm. Bald cypress trees need a wet-dry cycle to germinate. Fish need pulses of water to cue them to swim upstream and spawn. Mess with the rhythm of nature and the cascade of negative consequences are myriad. The Nature Conservancy is managing flows on the Cape Fear and Roanoke Rivers for the benefits they provide to nature and people. Learn more: https://nature.ly/47B2rAb.

The fourth, and final element of the Coral Triangle Conservation Fund (CTCF)’s logo are the little bubbles within the coral branches. These little circles represent coral, fish or other marine life spawn, which are indicators of healthy reefs. They also represent the multi-year marine, coastal and terrestrial projects that the CTCF will support throughout the years. The pockets of gas seem small but collectively, they are an impactful force of nature, just like how the projects will contribute to immense headway in assuring effective, climate resilient and sustainable priority marine protected and conserved areas (MPCAs) in the Coral Triangle to benefit both nature and communities.
