If you use digital rights management (DRM) to protect video content, chances are that earlier or later you will run accross the term PSSH. It stands for Protection System Specific Headers and is a part of a so called DRM signalling. In most cases, you don’t need to deal with PSSH directly, but sometimes there is no way around. With this article Axinom comes to help for understanding the concepts: https://lnkd.in/eqQ2pf2j. In a nutshell, when a packager applies DRM protection to a video, it encrypts the content but it also adds some metadata to the content, usually in the form of a container called PSSH box. There is a separate PSSH box for each DRM system used to protect the video (i.e., one video can contain multiple PSSH boxes - one for Widevine, one for PlayReady). PSSH box contains DRM system-specific PSSH data. Packagers usually do not generate encryption keys themselves, but request them from a secure Key Service. When a packager requests a key from a Key Service, it also receives a PSSH box for the DRM system used to protect the video. The Key Service generates the key and the PSSH box and returns them to the packager. How exactly the PSSH box is returned, is defined by the respective Key Acquisition Protocol, such as AWS SPEKE (https://lnkd.in/eEGvp5-T) or Widevine Common Encryption (https://lnkd.in/eySMNftg). When a player plays the content, it detects that the content is encrypted and reads the respective PSSH box. The player then uses the information in the PSSH box to obtain the key from a license server. Axinom also offers usefull troubleshooting tools: PSSH decoder (https://lnkd.in/eRP3m8NV) and PSSH data decoder (https://lnkd.in/eQ8jTrz7) in case you want to look inside. #demystifyingDrm #AxinomDrm #AxinomMosaic

There's a bunch of important open questions about Related Website Sets in the Chrome Privacy Sandbox so I've asked them publicly @ https://lnkd.in/gAUkXjXh Typically someone from G responds in the threads within a week or so, I'll update my content about RWS and my posts if I can get clarity about these issues. If you want to see all the old public conversations about RWS where folks ask about various issues, including iframe cookie access issues (everyone's iframe code must be updated to work with RWS sites if using this), and other nuanced questions, here's a link for the closed RWS issues sorted by most comments @ https://lnkd.in/g2eMnEHx 🖖
