From the #clinicaltrial trenches: The case of the missing documents... ...32 months after the fact. How would you respond to a new monitor’s request for copies of all ALL correspondence, logs, … from study start to the current time. The good old days of paper would have made it an easy “no”. Average of 3 minutes per page: find, verify, fax/copy, verify, re-file for 200 plus pages. Perhaps it is still an easy no. The average time to locate, verify, load will take 1 min or so for each page. I have visions of another invoice. Don’t forget, the task had been completed. The additional request comes with lost opportunity costs making the actual cost 3 to 5 times the “purported” cost. #clinicalresearch #clinicalstudies #clinicaloperations #drugdevelopment

When I said yes to the invitation for a scoping review on PROMS in NMD, I didn't realize the amount of work it would entail. But I have no regrets. Thanks to great teamwork with Ronne Pater, Joana Garmendia Zaldua, Andone Sistiaga Berrondo, Garazi Labayru Isusquiza, Ingrid de Groot, Benjamin Gallais, Samar Muslemani, Cynthia Gagnon and Christopher Graham, this scoping review has recently been published. The comprehensive review assesses 190 PROMs across 247 distinct studies, focusing on validity, reliability, responsiveness, and interpretability. The review highlights the challenges involved in choosing the best instrument. Detailed psychometric characteristics for each PROM are included in the supplementary file. The review, along with the supplementary material, is accessible through the provided link: https://lnkd.in/ebDajVXX

As a member of the INSPIRE-NMD network and a person living with a neuromuscular disease I am both proud and grateful to be part of this important project. The treatment of NMD primarily focuses on physiological and biological aspects. We know however that psychological and emotional wellbeing are critical aspects of overall health. And we also know that many people living with an NMD experience psychological and social problems and challenges because of their disease. And that this significantly impacts their quality of life. This scoping review hopefully helps future research to identify and include the outcomes that matter to people living with an NMD. https://lnkd.in/eJAg3_HN
