Last week many leaders in the Non profit space got together for a showing of the documentary film Uncharitable Movie. This is a very moving eye opener into restrictions faced by charitable Orgs - restrictions that curb the ability to reach their fullest growth & impact potential.
We had the pleasure of capturing the excitement building around this movement, as you can see in these short snippets.
Thank you for speaking to us David Bohm, Bert Armstrong, Brian Etheridge, Lori O'Keefe, Eric Guckian, Shirnetta Harrell
Stay tuned for more to come..
A huge Thank You to Maggie KaneDanny RosinKristine SloanJordan BowmanJake Humphrey for pulling this together in conjunction with the Marbles Kids Museum & the many volunteers & sponsors!
Hi, my name is David. I work for the Apex Chamber of Commerce, and I'm here to watch the uncharitable movie, which I understand is phenomenal. And being able to leverage and strengthen your nonprofit. As a nonprofit ourselves, we got to learn how to be more effective, more efficient, and change the mindsets that we could be better in our own community. Hi, I'm Burt Armstrong. I'm with the Armstrong McGuire and Associates based here in Raleigh. We were one of the sponsors of Uncharitable showing tonight and really excited about that, especially excited just about the conversation that has been started and that is continuing as this movie begins to get the documentary begins to get out there and really raises some important questions and things that are nonprofit sector has had to deal with, needs to deal with our boards need to deal with that our funders. You deal with it and whether you agree with everything in the movie or not, that's OK. It's just important to have the discussion so. Alright, so my name is Brian Etheridge. I served as President of Leadership North Carolina. We're based here in Raleigh and have just under 1500 alumni that have been through our program since we started back in 1995. I got a chance to see on charitable couple of months ago with my team and actually recruited members of our board of directors to attend the night. And my big hope is just to help kind of raise the profile of this amazing documentary, the partners who brought it to all of us. To help support the nonprofit sector and to help support leaders across North Carolina who really see that we have the potential to help North Carolina live into its, its real mission. And, and that's, you know, to be rather than the scene. So we're really excited about tonight. Hi, I'm Laurie O'Keefe and I'm president and CEO of Triangle Community Foundation. We are a regional based nonprofit grant maker here in the Triangle. I have not seen this movie yet. This is my first time. I know the story, I know the controversy. I know it's a little disruptive, but I think it's important for funders and donors to recognize that we need to fund the full cost of all of these amazing nonprofits that are doing work in our region and. Across the country, so I'm really looking forward to it. Hi, I'm Erica Cain, and I'm the CEO and President of United Way of the Greater Triangle. And I'm here because we know that we have to get together as nonprofit leaders and as leaders in this community if we're going to meet our overall vision of ending poverty in the Triangle and in ensuring that we have social mobility for all, regardless of circumstance. So we're excited about that, and we're excited about the showing of this movie, and that's why I'm here. Hey everybody, my name is Shanetta Harrell. I'm the founder and executive director of the No Woman No Girl Initiative. Our mission is simple. We believe that no woman and no girl should ever have to go without access to hygiene products to survive crisis or transition. This movie is imperative. It's very crucial. It's very important for funders to be able to fund overhead. Without being able to operate, we cannot, you know, further amplify our missions. Out on the street. And so I would encourage you to please see the movie, let's talk about it, and ultimately, let's make a difference.

What is the value of ”Take Your Daughter to Work Day? We think it is education and empathy, so the child knows what the parent does daily, but it is so much more. It instills lifelong work values. Meahgan Gibson attended a “Take Your Daughter to Work Day” at Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. To this day she reminds me of a few choice words I stated during a staff meeting but she also pursued a career in Leisure and Hospitality. More importantly she picked up values like; everybody is critical to success (especially the lowest paid hourly associates), every person has a story, treat people with dignity and respect, and if they have a name tag, user their name. Grow by trying new things that others shy away from. Powerful words are “thank you” and “can you help me”, and assisting others even if you do not have time. Today this was in my feed. I had no idea she was working on this. Biscuits and socks, who knew? But more importantly, a young professional (from a generation many professionals belittle) leading a project that reflects well on the brand and does good for the community. Also hats off to Dennis Pfaff, Maple Street Biscuit Company and Cracker Barrel for creating an organization culture where young professional growth occurs. Take your daughter to work and as a leader, your relationships matter more than you know. #cio#leadership
TLDR: I've been working on something pretty cool!
"The Maple Street Mantra: Help People, Serve Others, Be A Part Of The Community" is why I joined the team. I'm grateful to Maple Street Biscuit Company for allowing me to take on something so near and dear to who we are.
*Maple Street Silly Socks* a portion of sock sales will go directly to LifeQuest Organ Recovery Services and U.F. Health, supporting their incredible work to maximize the Gift of Life through organ and tissue donation.
This is particularly meaningful because giving back has always been a big part of who I am. From working with the Miami Children's Initiative during my time at the University of Florida to my work with the Harrison County Community Foundation, I've seen firsthand the impact we can make when we come together.
Your support means the world and will help create positive change in our community. P.S. The socks are pretty cool as well https://lnkd.in/gKJnfwB6
Ancient trees are a valuable natural resource and can't be replaced like-for-like. Planting new trees after felling an ancient tree is neither good nor sustainable practice. Ancient and veteran trees need our help in protecting them.
