This year's final edition of FoodHack Lisbon is going to be fantastic. Embracing Sustainability in the Food Industry: New Challenges and Opportunities During the event "Food Businesses and Sustainable Development: New Scenarios and Opportunities" at the Sustainable Development Festival at the University of Parma (Italy), the focus was on sustainability culture, food, and agriculture. Attending this event, Elisa Ciarlini, Quality and R&D Manager of the Balconi site in Val D’Enza (Reggio Emilia) who emphasised our responsibility as a company towards sustainability: "Rethinking how we produce food can make a difference in shaping a better future for our Planet and People. How? In our ESG strategy, we have set multiple goals by 2030. We’re committed to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions across our manufacturing sites and supply chains, cutting water consumption and food waste. Yesterday, I attended the presentation of the third aggregated sustainability report, and it was very interesting to discover the steps forward that the Italian food industry has taken in terms of environmental, social and economic sustainability. However, even more interesting are the future sustainability paths that Italian firms in the food industry can pursue. In my opinion, there is a need for increasing awareness about this topic, both towards consumers and towards businesses, especially SMEs.
