Preventing Gang Involvement: Preventing gang involvement requires a comprehensive approach that includes early intervention programs tailored to individual needs, such as counseling and skill-building workshops. Schools play a crucial role in identifying at-risk youth and providing support through mentoring and extracurricular activities. Community involvement is essential, fostering positive relationships and offering safe spaces for youth engagement. Addressing underlying social issues like poverty and lack of opportunities is key for long-term prevention. By investing in these strategies, we can effectively steer young people away from gangs and towards positive pathways.

Hearts and Hands Community Development does many wonderful things for our community, including: • assisting disadvantaged individuals and communities raise themselves out of abject poverty and despair, disadvantage, or living with fear, violence, or abuse. • raise awareness of the need to protect children • raise awareness of the mobility issues of people within our community and offer a web-based portal for people experiencing these difficulties. Thus, enabling them to find practical opportunities, education, and to give and receive peer reviews of services and products. We are working on a live evaluation with the community experiencing homelessness living in two London boroughs. When looking at survey respondents, interview participants and other voices that we are capturing, it is important to work out who within that community we are not yet listening or speaking to. Particularly those who are harder to reach or are at the intersections of diversity. How can you do this? Make sure you map the community, preferably with a co-production group, to understand where the gaps in your reach are then work proactively to develop routes to those people. Co-production is a really helpful tool in making this meaningful and effective. #thecharityspark #evaluation #sparkchange

They combat the pressing challenges facing their community - from sexual and labor exploitation to the everyday struggle for basic needs like water and healthcare. 🛑Sexual Exploitation: A grim reality where older men prey on younger girls, often in settings like nightclubs. Maritza and Fanny are fighting back by educating the youth on how to remain safe and avoid dangerous situations. ⚒️Labor Exploitation: Many are forced to work long hours for meager pay, with some turning to informal jobs like construction or sand extraction from rivers due to lack of legal documentation. Fanny and Maritza's ongoing participation in local community vigilance groups helps community members identify exploitative situations and advocate for better working conditions and pay. We at Free the Slaves stand with Maritza and Fanny.
