Are we ready for the eIDAS 2.0 or EUDI Regulation (EU) 2024/1183? Today is the 20th May 2024, which is the date of said Regulation entering into force, although in reality it is just the beginning of a phased implementation period, so don't worry. By updating the well-known eIDAS Regulation (EU) 910/2014, digital identity of EU citizens should now receive a more efficient protection, framework development and optimized cross-border performance. Bodies issuing trust certificates in EU and outside of it, especially in countries who are candidates for the EU membership, should start on advocating for integration of eIDAS 2.0 into national legislative framework, because I will not lie, a convenience of having all paperwork proving my ID in one place is rather nice. #digitalwallet #digitalization #eIDAS #eIDAS2 #digitalId https://lnkd.in/dyFUYMxU

On Thursday, 29 February, the European Commission voted in favour of revising the eIDAS regulation. eIDAS aims to facilitate a harmonised approach for digital identity across Europe through the European Digital Identity Wallet (EDIW). The EDIW is designed to offer both citizens and legal entities a secure and user-friendly method for authenticating and sharing their data. Importantly, it empowers users to maintain full control over their personal information. The EDIW has many potential use cases such as opening a bank account, renting a car or checking in to a hotel. The acceptance of the revision by the EC allows the eIDAS process to advance towards implementation and acceptance. According to the indicative timeline, the EC will detail the required technical and operational standards through implementing acts within six months of the regulation taking effect.
