Celebrating Diversity Through Housing Design 🌎 Today, there is a rising concern about the sameness of new housing developments amidst the affordability challenge. However, what if the designs of these developments could go beyond just functionality? In my latest op-ed, I explore the issue of 'groupthink', the drawbacks of remote collaborations, and the significance of embracing diversity in architectural innovation. By adopting a multicultural perspective, we can create structures that speak to every segment of our diverse communities. Are you ready to reimagine our cityscapes? Read on to find out more. 👥🎨 https://lnkd.in/gxSTC4WW Prica Global Enterprises Inc. PG Design Studio Inc #DiverseDesigns #ArchitecturalInnovation #CommunityReflection

Holistic and strategic consulting & sparring – through storytelling, design and facilitation, I help you create a 360° inner and outer experience of your company. 💚🌱🌳
We call it Regenerative Design. A life-to-life centered approach. We could discuss if we have ever really designed for humans, or just human decay…? We as humans are nature too, but it seems that we have forgotten that. 🧐🌱🍁🪳🌳 So how to design for life? And how to remember that we are nature? That might be the root cause of our planetary crisis. In Regenerative Design, we use nature as a 3.8 bill. year old really wise go-to-woman. She has already tested systems and ways of doing things. She knows. The hardest part in this design process is really to reconnect humans, to nature, so that we are able to understand, have compassion and empathize with the important stakeholders we need to give a voice when designing. Also humans as living systems. So if you want to understand the basics and make a more than sustainable impact? Anna Taws and I, are exploring and practicing this - it’s not easy, but important. We do inspirational and hands-on workshops if ‘you’ are interested? #wearenature #regenerativedesign
How do we design in a way that transcends human-centeredness? This has been and still is the most critical question for design to answer today. And although there are plenty of ideas and intentions, examples of how we can go from theory to practice are few and far between. Ron Wakkary's work is an exception... https://lnkd.in/dXUhT2dx

To all the architects, designers, creative technologists and artists in my network: Many may not know, but for the past few years I've been working on a book with many notable personalities from around the world in the crossover between the worlds of architecture and technology. Gathering people to speak and write about such an increasingly hot topic over the years has been immensely difficult, but extremely rewarding and a massively educational. And more than anything, the prospect of putting my words out in the public for the first time for the world to see, is a lot more intimidating than I had expected. After years of hard work, stolen laptops, and the support of so many incredible people which have taught me so much, without further delay, I present you, "The Architect is Dead". What started as a discussion in none other than one of the greatest creative environments in the world (the Architectural Association) in 2017, slowly developed into an invigorating and eclectic endless digital publication with the participation of architects, performers, artists, inventors, philosophers and pioneers alike, exploring the spectrum of excitement and anxiety between architecture and its confrontation with relentless technological advancement. The first few chapters are online, to be followed by countless more published periodically. Read, share, and most of all, comment what you think! #architecture #design #technology

When we talked about "visual power" we said TV and cinema or social media weren't good examples of equal power for everyone. We said this kind of phenomenon will give power to the specific stratum of society or vertical architecture, limit public social places, and so on ... In the concept of a Bazaar or generally horizontal architecture, we gave some power to every face and color like people who walk in the Bazaar will see every face like a hundred, thousand picture, So seeing the different shapes and colors of faces, its like giving the more complete image in our unconscious. In your opinion what will be the consequences of this horizontal architecture on our future?

FROM THE DESIGNER'S DESK: The Ark Encounter in Williamstown KY is truly a great thing to see. For those of us that believe in GOD Almighty, it bring us a very real, life-sized model of Noah's ark of Genesis. When you enter the exhibit, please take the time to read the panels that explain the artistic and interpretative liberties. Not every detail is given to us in Genesis so this is necessary to help fill in gaps, just do not make things biblical where things are not. This story became more intriguing as I got older. The design of the ark is beautifully functional in KY, but many aspects of the detailed design are not described in Genesis. Engineering and functional design has caused us to build way more into the hull design than what may have been necessary for Noah. There is a section of the exhibits that explain why the hull had to be shaped the way the model is built. While I completely believe the studies are extremely accurate, they fall short of understanding a factor that is mentioned hundreds of times throughout the Ark Encounter. The GOD factor. It takes far less faith to believe the ark was successful if designed to every maritime vessel rule than to understand that the ark of Genesis was salvation for man from GOD. Therefore, aside from what we read, I choose faith in the Designer. We were given the size along with many other features both inside and outside. Rather than man agreeing with the size ratio, I believe GOD gave that to us for our use whether we agree or not. I certainly do not want to give the wrong impression of the Ark Encounter. I highly recommend it. As a designer, I understand and appreciate my mentors, and GOD is the ultimate one.

Working for a more inclusive world by bringing the concepts of universal design into the 21st century.
I posted this in 2020 but sadly many of these myths remain in the community today. The Sourceable article elaborates on the 6 myths in the post. Have a look - go to the link. Minimum access standards for the built environment do not guarantee accessibility. Unfortunately, we still have designers who aren’t interested in best practice, only in ticking the compliance box. It also means that access is a last thought and remedies, such as ramps, are tacked onto the “grand design”. But universal design should be the grand design if we want equitable and dignified use by all.

"The structures we inhabit, the design choices that comprise these experiences, and the communities who interact with them add up to a kind of spatial narrative unique to each place. Every space has a character, and as designers, it’s our job to bring this character to its full potential."
