On pastors and congregations... For denominations with no system of appointments by bishops, candidates have no decision to make unless a church issues a call. The church and candidate both have DNA, stories, history, and embedded theology. Because the church belongs to God, not pastor nor people, an abiding posture in the Holy Spirit is essential for a good match. Ministry is a spiritual battlefield. Live combat against the enemy is always going on in the atmosphere (angels versus demons). Sometimes, God includes us in it on earth. This is only one reason why pastoring a flock is more than a job for a freshly graduated seminarian, or anyone else. Pastoring is a godly assignment. At the end of the day, God knows best. God is best at matching pastors and congregations. The task of the congregation and candidate is to do all the due diligence, pray without ceasing, and realize that the pastor and people relationship is designed by God to grow both into the image of His Son - Jesus Christ.

Four Steps to Model Christ at Work: Step Two A Gospel Coalition article by Miranda Carls provides four steps to improve your experience at work and to represent Christ more fully. The second step in this series is to defend your faith. The workplace is full of skeptics of the Christian faith. If you’re not prepared to defend your beliefs, you may inadvertently undermine your credibility. You don’t need to be a biblical scholar, but you do need to understand the basic beliefs of Christianity. 1 Peter 3:15 says, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” If you can’t defend your views in a coherent way, you will lack credibility. Consider a study on Christian apologetics. Questions for Reflection When defending the Bible, consider your audience. What is their worldview? What do they accept as truth, and how does that overlap with your beliefs? How can you build off of your shared values? Can you sum up the main points of Christianity into a coherent thought? Think of a few of the main issues people have with Christianity. What is the Biblical response to those questions? And how might you articulate it without diminishing the truth or provoking a fight? “but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,” 1 Peter 3:15 ESV https://lnkd.in/gFwUTmB7

What does it mean: 2 Corinthians 10:5 New International Version 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. Meaning: In 2 Corinthians 10:5, the Apostle Paul is urging believers to take control of their thoughts and align them with the teachings of Christ. This verse emphasizes the importance of discernment and spiritual warfare, encouraging Christians to reject any ideas or beliefs that oppose the knowledge of God. It emphasizes the need to be vigilant in guarding one’s mind against false teachings and ideologies, ensuring that every thought is obedient to Christ.

As a pastor, I am asked all the time, “If I am saved by faith, why should it matter how I live? I can do what I want because Jesus has washed it all away.” This is a fundamental misunderstanding of the Gospel. Yes, we affirm that we are justified by faith alone. However, that is not the full statement. Here is the rest of it… We are justified by faith alone, but that faith does not stay alone. This is a great book that talks about the danger of going too far in “free grace” theology and forgetting about the Lordship of Christ.
