A general, vague job posting doesn't benefit anyone - the candidates applying, or the hiring team reviewing applicants. Specificity is key, but maybe not in the way you think. Some specificity in the skills and experience required helps potential applicants self-qualify if the job is right for them. Add too many specifics, though, and you risk turning away great people who might excel in the role but may not fit all the must-haves. And as Claire Stroh, MBA, PHR, SHRM-CP explains below, candidates want to learn more than just what's required of the job! Can they see how they would fit as an employee on your team? Some specificity in sharing core aspects of your culture can help attract great people who you want to apply. Job postings are a marketing asset - and if you're just listing the role responsibilities and requirements, you're missing out on a great opportunity. As Claire Stroh, MBA, PHR, SHRM-CP explains, candidates want to learn about more than just the basics of a job description. The best job postings I've seen share some really insightful stuff: - Listed growth goals with defined metrics for products the role owns. - 30/60/90 day benchmarks of what success looks like in the role. - A real deep dive on the company culture, core values, how they operate. Can candidates see how they would fit as an employee on your team? The more specifics you can share, the more likely you'll attract the top talent you want to add. Be curious and challenge stereotypes! Often, hiring managers disregard a candidate because they don’t think they can handle a specific aspect of the job. So why not be transparent with the candidate and allow them to prove you wrong? The outcome might surprise you… Simon Milne is the owner and co-founder of Jobcave, an Auckland-based recruitment company that prioritises communication between all parties in the hiring process. 🌏 Global and award winning Rec2Rec since 2004 🏆 and non-award winning “Recruitment Journeys” podcast host 🎙️
Excited and proud to announce that tomorrow, we go live with The Recruiter's Wagon mini-podcast series, focused on helping Recruiters who might want to change their relationship with alcohol. The podcasts will be bite-sized 10 minute episodes, spread over 10 weeks (every Wednesday), and each episode will answer one question that we KNOW some Recruiters out there WILL be asking themselves, but might be too afraid to ask friends or colleagues (IF they’re thinking about changing things up where booze is involved!) So myself and my Co-Host Hannah Rodger will answer them for you! We’re launching the pilot episode tomorrow, which was recorded a couple of weeks ago at the RCSA Shape conference on Hamilton Island, and in this live podcast, we discuss: ❓What is “The Recruiter’s Wagon”? ❓How did “The Recruiter’s Wagon” come about? ❓ What do we actually do on “The Recruiter’s Wagon”? ❓Why is this important to us personally? ❓What is new “Recruiter’s Wagon” podcast all about? We hope this podcast will give some Recruiters the opportunity to think more deeply about whether changing their relationship with alcohol is for them or not, in the privacy of their own AirPods. Out tomorrow, on Spotify, Google and Apple Podcasts. #sobercurious #recruitmentlife

Fractional CxO | Driving business growth through People, Strategy and Data | MBA & MSc | Non-profit Board Director
I really enjoyed this episode of the Women in Data® podcast with Karen Jean-Francois and Sumathi Thiyagarajan. My biggest takeaways/reminders: - The transferrability of analytical skills across industries and domains. - The importance, at all levels, of "soft" skills like communication, relationship building and project management but really key - highlighting these on your resume. - The suggestion to get someone outside of Data/Analytics, outside of your industry to read your resume to ensure it translates in a meaningful way. - The value of having a role akin to VP of Business Strategy and Analytics so that you have someone with those skills, with that perspective in the room where senior decisions are made. I loved how Sumathi described how beneficial it is for other leaders who mightn't have the same cross-section of exposure to the business. #career #womenindata #businessstrategy #analytics #resume #development #communication #strategy
