Today is World Mental Health Day. It's one of my favorite days as it allows me as an SLP to take the time to talk to my students and patients how connected mental health and communication can be. Applicable lessons include self-advocacy, problem solving, perspective taking, and honoring our strengths through positive affirmations for ourselves and others. It also applies to my professional life as well. Its no secret that our industries are changing. Some positive while others not so much. Post-Covid I have seen our caseloads rise, reimbursements reduced, and more clinicians leaving due to pay cuts or not feeling supported. It is our responsibility to empower others and ourselves to address these problems head on. When we care for ourselves by talking to others or practicing self-care, we can become better advocates for ourselves and in turn, for our patients. So my question for you is: What will you do today to empower yourself or others? #SpeechPathology #WorldMentalHealthDay #SpeechTherapy #SpecialEducation #SpecialNeeds #SelfCare #SLPs

Sharing negative results of research projects may not seem like a great idea, but it can save the tireless efforts of researchers and those planning new methodologies. Let's consider embracing transparency and sharing negative results for the greater good of the research community. #research #transparency #negativeresults
Been kicking around the idea of a “Journal of Negative Results”. Ideally an online portal to upload short form descriptions of negative results with data, and most importantly what was learned. Not only impactful to destigmatize negative results but could also have knock on mental health benefits through fellowship and community for those intrepid researchers who are pushing the world forward.

In light of the widespread impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), this is an essential read. I've heard so many folks say that their organizations are trauma-informed, and when I ask further, they mean that they have some therapists trained in a trauma treatment technique (EMDR, TF-CBT, CPT, etc). Doing trauma treatment doesn't equal a trauma informed agency. Trauma-informed approaches in mental health are often misunderstood. This research article is insightful and it dives into common misconceptions around these approaches, while making a powerful case for centering trauma survivors' voices and prioritizing safety, empowerment and collaboration in mental healthcare. If you want to truly grasp what trauma-informed care entails and why it's so crucial, here's a start. https://lnkd.in/gcs4vwBC TBD Solutions Inc -- At TBD, we help organizations improve practices and outcomes.
