RegenSense, an regenerative startup that I have co-initiated, is selected to #SwedishClimateStartupMap . RegenSense works on "revolutionize ecosystem health assessment by providing state-of-art monitoring for landscapes". In other words, it tells us how is the ecosystem health of a landscape (farm, forest, national park, water basin, whatsoever) is changing over time. So you can make management decisions, do claims (credits, supply change claims etc) or even shift the subsidies to regenerating farmers for instance (hi there, governments). And it does all this completely outcome-based, not leaving space to #greenwashing. It's one of the most crucial work needed in regenerative space, I would say. This recognition is also another proof of the untapped potentials of operating within "ecosystem" of regenerative entrepreneurs - a vision enabled by RegenHive... There is so much untapped potential there but it requires to trust, to care, to acknowledge, and more. Best Purpose of the Week 98 of 101 🏆 This week’s best purpose is “We face what matters” from VAIA an innovative Italian startup. In the aftermath of the Vaia storm which devastated the Dolomites’ forests in October 2018, felling 42 million trees, Vaia’s founders, Paolo Milan, Giuseppe Addamo, asked themselves “What if producing meant not depleting resources but giving back to nature and the #ecosystem?” This is how the startup was born. Recently visiting SpaceOps NZ provided food-for-thought on the value of taking bold strategic moves as an enabler for economic growth. Thanks to Bobbi Brown, Steve Canny at Great South, myself along with colleagues from Venture Taranaki Trust, Venture Timaru and NorthlandInc, and thanks to AGMARDT (The Agricultural and Marketing Research and Development Trust) we recently visited the Awarua Satellite Ground Station (main hub of SpaceOps NZ) as one segment of an inter-regional visitation initiative. It is truly mind blowing. Southland offers this unique Southern Hemisphere location, which is valued globally by clients in the space industry due to its global position – ideal for putting antennas there, and securing added support for their space missions, or other space-related services. Such a bold move for Southland - as the site is based amongst a traditional farming region at the bottom of NZ – so anticipate its establishment challenged many mindsets over the years. It certainly takes land diversification to a whole new level! The visit highlighted the value of such a bold move for the Southland region and the NZ economy:  Attracts high calibre scientists to the region – often bringing specialist skills from overseas, and their families.  Introduces new industry, accompanied by new supply chains, global ideas, research connections and broadening of minds.  Exposes school children and others to the facility, highlighting STEM applications and exciting career possibilities.  Attracts major national and international global clients, new relationships and global attention – which opens the doors to so much more.    Connects with broader industries e.g. food/farming/climate/land, given the value and learnings gleaned from space and satellite data.  Creates a new high value weightless export service – if we’re going to double our exports we need to think differently – and this is an example. At a time when we need to catalyse economic growth, taking some calculated risks and bold moves amongst our incremental actions seems a smart strategic move – whether this is at an enterprise, regional or country level. It is an area we are certainly focusing on in our organisation and region, and it would be great to hear experiences and views from others on this topic.
