As we returned from our Easter break, I continue to enjoy the leftover cakes/Easter eggs/steaks from the get-togethers over the long weekend. As someone who likes to eat out a lot, it saddens me to hear that in London, 67% of London’s food waste is edible and only 1% gets redistributed and 100,000 families in London have less than £3 a day to spend on food. I would like to use my next marathon race in Paris (7 April yes 5 days to go) to raise awareness about this food insecurity problem. You can support me by one of the following 1) reducing your own food waste by not buying surplus food which might end up in the bin; 2) taking home the leftovers from your restaurant meals or friends' dinner parties to re-purpose them; 3) support #TheFelixProject through donation or even volunteering - their mission is to take surplus food from their suppliers and deliver it to any charity that helps feed people. It's all nutritious and would otherwise go to waste. Not only that, but it helps fight food poverty and reduces costs for hardworking organisations. Thank you to those who have kindly donated and/or supporting this cause through any type of action (reduce food waste, take leftovers home, volunteer all counts).

Food rescue is the redirection of good-to-eat food, which is unable to be sold, and would have become food waste, back to human consumption, rather than landfill, compost, animal feed, or other uses. There are many food rescue organisations throughout the country, commonly run by community groups. Food rescue organisations are generally charities, funded by local councils, sponsorship, business partnerships and community grants. More here https://lnkd.in/gZYnK8-P

Second Harvest Inland Northwest has been living sustainably for over 50 years. A core part of our work, getting food to people facing hunger is the rescue of food that may otherwise go to waste. Today we have a program called Grocery Rescue that matches neighborhood foodbanks with grocery stores, we rescued 12.5 million pounds of food in 2023. We also work with many food producers to get donations. Our total food distribution in 2023 was over 35 million pounds and most of that was rescued and donated. As we enter 2024 our sustainability efforts and commitment to feeding people facing hunger continues. In fact, we are leaning in even more aggressively to get the most out of our operations with Zilch – an effort to waste less and feed more. Since the beginning of the year, we have added 19 new organizations that we are helping. There are lots of ways for the business community to be a part of this effort through sponsorship and volunteering.  #sustainability #Zilch #helpingeachother

Return and Earn proudly celebrates 11 billion bottles, cans, and cartons recycled through NSW’s network of 620 return points. Not only has $1.1 billion in container refunds gone back into participants' pockets, but $54 million has been raised from donations and site hosting fees to support charities and community groups using the scheme’s fundraising features. This milestone is not possible without the eight out of ten adults in NSW who are regularly returning their containers, helping reduce litter and keep materials in use longer to support a growing domestic circular economy.
