We are hiring: The Province of Hermanas Mirabal is located in the interior of the Dominican Republic, holding a space measuring about 443 km2, with an approximate population of 100,000 inhabitants. This province is where the heroines Patria, Minerva and Maria Teresa Mirabal were born. On November 25th they were murdered by the dictator Rafael Trujillo and to honor them, November 1960 was assigned as the International Day to speak of ending violence against women. The Oficina Técnica Provincial was assigned and designed as a space where all planning concerning the province Hermanas Mirabal mainly takes place, with the contribution of main important foundations, local authorities, and with the support of the Ministry of Education. The intention is to develop quality educational experiences between a government and non-government alliance (co-management), one for primary education at the Escuela Hermanas Mirabal de Ojo de Agua, with 350 students, and another for secondary education at the Liceo Cientifico Dr. Miguel Canela Lazaro with 550 students. In both cases, they are free public educational centers, in which we are applying the STEAM approach (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics), in a framework of inclusion and multiculturalism. To continue promoting these initiatives of quality education for low-income students, we are looking for educators and international professionals who have graduated from universities, who are encouraged by a social commitment and want to support us for a year or more to strengthen experiences. We can offer housing and a monthly collaboration of about 850 dollars. (Spanish speaking is not required). For ten (10) years we have had the collaboration of teachers and volunteers from Chile, Italy, Spain, Germany, Lithuania, Macedonia, Venezuela, United States, France, Haiti, Mexico, India, People's Republic of China, Korea, Republic of South Africa, Canada, Japan, Romania, Nigeria, Morocco and Puerto Rico. Welcome the new boss. Same as the old boss? I do hope the 'plan to reform the system' is an actual plan. Meanwhile, the current restrictions on income and student immigration will make 2024-25 a car crash for WalesandEngland Universities . Remember, not only undergrads are loss-making but so is the bulk of scientific research - Research Councils don't cover full economic costs. So we increase our activity and... create bigger deficits So what do we do - when our cost base is overwhelmingly staff, and where precarity/zero hours has already been pushed as far (further?) as it practically and ethically can. The answer is unfortunately obvious. At least in the absence of (for example) Profs either going out and earning real-world money, or taking a chunky pay cut. Neither of which is remotely likely.

The Italian journal Scuola Democratica organized a conference on education and social justice, on Sardinia. I gave a keynote on three societal functions of education: qualification, allocation, socialization. I presented work on tracking and civic engagement, social mobility, and linkage between school and work. Educational systems matter for these three functions. Strongly stratified and vocationally specific educational systems work well for allocation: there is a smooth transition from school to work, with low youth unemployment. The same systems work less well for socialisation into civic and political engagement, with larger gaps between education groups.

Against this backdrop, our study aims to delve into the emotional impact of job ghosting specifically on immigrant communities in Canada. We recognize that the post-COVID era has brought unprecedented challenges, exacerbating existing employment stressors. By focusing on this vulnerable population, we seek to answer critical questions: - How prevalent is job ghosting among immigrants in Canada? - What are the emotional responses triggered by job ghosting? - How can we address this issue effectively to support the well-being and integration of immigrant job seekers? Appreciation to Charles MENSAH, Ph.D, Dionisio Nyaga Ph.D for contributing to this research.

Book Title LINKS A Kenyan Teacher's Quest for a U.S. Teaching Position Introduction My quest to secure a teaching position in the USA has been both enlightening and challenging. This book is designed to guide fellow educators considering a similar path, sharing my experiences, lessons learned, and practical advice on applying directly to U.S. schools. Chapter 1: The Dream Begins In November 2022, inspired by the prospect of teaching in the USA, I reached out to Denver Public Schools (DPS). My initial email, sent on November 15, 2022, was concise and showcased my experience and skills. Despite my qualifications, the process proved to be more intricate than expected. The response I received was a promising acknowledgment from Christine Torres, a Supervisor at DPS, who expressed interest but noted that further steps were required. Chapter 2: The First Response On November 20, 2022, Christine Torres responded to my email suggesting a one-way interview via InterviewStream. Unfortunately, due to unstable internet in Kenya, I faced technical issues during the interview scheduled for November 25, 2022. Christine's response on November 27, 2022, highlighted the need for a more stable connection to proceed. This phase required significant resilience and adaptability on my part. Chapter 3: Overcoming Hurdles After rescheduling the interview for December 2, 2022, and addressing the technical challenges, I was introduced to Brandon Lopez, the recruiter for DPS. Brandon’s email on December 5, 2022, emphasized the importance of patience and persistent follow-ups. This period taught me the value of flexibility and proactive communication in international job applications. Chapter 4: Navigating Visa and Sponsorship The visa sponsorship process proved to be another significant hurdle. Despite the guidance from DPS’s visa team, including a detailed email from KG Kujjo, the Senior Manager of Talent Acquisition, on January 10, 2023, the process was complex and required meticulous attention to detail. KG Kujjo’s insights were invaluable in understanding the requirements and navigating the visa process. Chapter 5: Insights and Reflections Though my journey did not result in a U.S. teaching position, it offered crucial lessons. The experience underscored the importance of thorough preparation, clear communication, and resilience. Applying directly to U.S. schools is feasible but involves navigating intricate bureaucratic processes and overcoming various challenges. Chapter 6: Practical Advice for Aspiring International Teachers 1. Research Thoroughly : Understand specific school and district requirements. 2. Prepare for Technical Challenges;Ensure a stable internet connection for interviews and follow-ups. 3. Be Persistent;Regular follow-ups and clear communication can make a significant difference. 4. Understand Visa Requirements; Familiarize yourself with the visa process and necessary documentation. Other links are shared in the Book. , Links by James Otieno

When I founded The Build Fellowship by Open Avenues six years ago, I had a slogan I made up: "When we open avenues for foreign talent, we all move forward". Wasn't catchy - but I believed it to my core. Today we have more evidence. Stuart Anderson published a Forbes article about a new study that shows immigrants actually raise wages and boost employment for Americans. How? “Immigration, thanks to native-immigrant complementarity and college skill content of immigrants, had a positive and significant effect between 1.7% to 2.6% on wages of less educated native workers, over the period 2000-2019 and no significant wage effect on college educated natives" Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e56MpUJa

sometimes I feel all research institutes should pay HRAs to scholars who are availing hostel accomodation. I mean, practically you're paying hostel fees out of your stipend and if a basic HRA is provided it could atleast ease their financial burden to some extent and make research institutes more competitive in attracting top talents. Providing housing allowances (HRAs) to scholars could help cover additional living expenses beyond rent. #thoughtoftheday #academia #phdlife #research

Did you know, there are currently over 400 international students studying at post-secondary institutions in Chatham-Kent? Research has shown that many of these students studying in Chatham-Kent have an interest in remaining in the community and working after graduation. In 2023/24, the Chatham-Kent Workforce Planning Board conducted research that looked into international student talent in Chatham-Kent. The goal of the research was to build an understanding of skillsets and career aspirations of local international students, and to provide recommendations for their long-term participation into the local labour market after graduation. The report is based on a review of relevant literature and labour market information, as well as conversations with a range of stakeholders, including post-secondary institutions, local employers, the immigration sector, and international students residing in Chatham-Kent.
