Ask yourself, what do I have to lose by donating? Then ask yourself, what do I have to lose if I don’t? Someone in the world develops dementia every 3 seconds. That somone could be you, a family memeber or friend. There are over 55 million people worldwide living with dementia in 2020. This number will almost double every 20 years, reaching 78 million in 2030 and 139 million in 2050. #dementiaawareness #walktoendalzheimers #memoriesmatter #ENDALZ

Our work with Arts for Dementia didn't place at D&AD this year. In fact, nobody in our category was... We normally wouldn't enter, however, this year we felt it was an opportunity to get the charities name out there and seen by some great creative minds and eyes. Regardless, I'm incredibly proud of this piece of work. It came from a place of lived experience, and empathy. To showcase that life doesn't end with a diagnosis and while the journey is hard, it shouldn't be hopeless. Since the launch, we have had so many people tell us how much it's raised the bar in their mind regarding accessibility within design, the arts and health sector, and even made them aware of the charity and the work they carry out. Which is an amazing feeling. It was also a massive learning curve for ourselves, especially in regards to designing a system and website which comfortably achieved AA, and even AAA accessibility ratings. We had to consider cognitive impairment, colour blindness, age, mobility and even language to ensure it reflected the needs of service-users and the wider AFD community as a whole. Being recognised by your peers is always great, but being recognised by the people you're trying to help is unmatched. We may be more successful in the future but for now we've decided to take a break from the awards cycle, instead use the money each year to put into studio projects, or simply donate it to a worthy cause 💙 In the meantime, take a look at the full case study below. If you like what you see give it a share, and if you, or someone you know is affected by dementia, make sure to give them the details of Arts for Dementia. They are awesome! CBRE UK has embarked on a new charitable journey with the Alzheimer's Society, aiming to harness the power of community and compassion to impact the lives of those affected by dementia significantly. At RB Architectes, we recognise the profound influence our environments have on our well-being, especially for individuals living with dementia and their families. This partnership between CBRE and the Alzheimer's Society resonates deeply with our ethos of creating spaces that nurture health, safety, and comfort. Dementia, now the leading cause of death in the UK, presents unique challenges, affecting approximately 900,000 people, a number projected to rise significantly. CBRE's commitment, as detailed in the announcement, to raise £600,000 to support Alzheimer's Society's critical services, including the Citizens Advice Benefits Service and the Diversity and Inclusion fund, is a beacon of hope. These services aim to mitigate the isolation and financial hardship that often accompany dementia diagnoses. At RBA, we understand that architecture and design play crucial roles in supporting individuals with dementia. Through thoughtful design, we can create safe, navigable, and comforting environments, thereby reducing anxiety and enhancing the quality of life for those affected and their families. Spaces that are easy to navigate, with clear visual cues and safe, restful areas, can make a substantial difference in the day-to-day lives of individuals with dementia. This partnership exemplifies the kind of positive impact that organisations can achieve through collaboration and community support. It's a reminder of the power of collective action in addressing the challenges posed by dementia, not just through financial contributions but also by fostering environments that support mental and emotional well-being. As we applaud CBRE UK's initiative, we are inspired to continue exploring how architectural design can contribute to the well-being of individuals with dementia and their families, reinforcing the importance of inclusive, empathetic, and supportive community spaces. #DementiaAwareness #ArchitectsForHealth #InclusiveDesign #MentalHealthSupport #CommunityImpact #SustainableCommunities #WellbeingArchitecture #CharitySupport #AlzheimersSociety For more information on CBRE's initiative and the Alzheimer's Society, please visit their official announcement at https://lnkd.in/dEMm-rnf

I NEED your help... On the 3rd August I'm taking part in Alzheimer's Society #Trek26Suffolk and walking 26miles to raise money to help support people affected by Dementia. Dementia is the biggest health and social challenge of our time. There are currently estimated to be 900,000 people in the UK with dementia. Many are undiagnosed and facing the realities of their condition alone. This number will rise to 1.6 million people by 2040. And yet, despite this, latest figures show the UK government invests only around £85m in dementia research per year, which reflects about 0.25 per cent of the cost of dementia to the UK. In comparison, they invest about £270m per year or 1.5 per cent of the cost of cancer into cancer research. On a daily basis, I see the devastation this disease causes not only to the person living with dementia but to their families and friends. Dementia deserves more. It deserves more awareness, it deserves more funding and it deserves to be a priority. Dementia will affect 1 in 3 of us. Recently, I have become this statistic. I am the 1 in 3. And suddenly, overnight, this event has become more important to me than ever. So I'm here to ask for your help. I'm here to ask you to donate whatever you can to this amazing cause. 💙 £50 could fund 8 phone calls to a Dementia Advisor providing support to carers who are exhausted and isolated. 💙 £200 could fund a Community Advisor for a day enabling them to visit someone face-to-face and provide invaluable support. https://lnkd.in/eYx43_ay FYI this is my family on our first 'training' session this morning! #dementia #dementiaawareness #dementiasupport #fundraisingevents #charityevents #justgiving #pleasesupport #challengeaccepted #alzheimerssociety #alzheimersawareness #walking #takingaction

Today I reached 100 miles!! Yes, there’s 560 still to go but let’s not dwell on that too much 😊 The question is ….. why did I choose to walk 660 miles for Epilepsy Society? I was active as a child, enjoying a range of sports, ballet 2-3 times a week and always out and about with friends. Whilst I was never the best in class, I was always up for a tennis or badminton match, a game of volleyball, going to the gym and, sometimes going out for a run (it has been known on a very few occasions). As a late teenager that all changed. Things would start off fine and at some point my brain would simply work too fast for my body to keep up and the wiring went crazy. There followed a few embarrassing situations and too many questions that were too difficult to answer. As time went on it was easier simply not to take part anymore. 30 years and 2 children later, menopause kicking and screaming at the front door, I decided it was time to take control. I definitely need motivation to get me out the door, but I wanted to do something that I would enjoy and not what I felt forced into. I have a supportive family and I know they have my best interests at heart, but being pushed to go to the gym or walk faster, get your heart pumping, does not help. This hugely raises stress levels which leads to fits more quickly. It is really important that I stay calm and in control whilst exercising but also motivated to keep going. I have previously done a Conqueror Challenge and I found it very motivating seeing your progress and getting some interesting facts as you go. Being a Lord of the Rings fans, this challenge was perfect for me and seems to be working! What do I want to achieve? Besides getting fitter, losing some weight, and completing a challenging goal, I want to show that despite the challenges we can all achieve what we put our mind to. In addition, I am doing the challenge to raise money for Epilepsy Society. The Society has been a great source of information for me over the years and helped me in many conversations with medical professionals. They also advocate on behalf of people with epilepsy, raising awareness of the daily challenges facing people with epilepsy. The current issue on many of our minds at the moment is the shortage of medication. To support the great work that Epilepsy Society does, please donate to my JustGiving page https://lnkd.in/dARY8Tru
