On Tuesday 9 April, the ECOP Programme, along with partners representing the New England Aquarium, #TheRippleEffect, International Ocean Institute, GOAL Global, IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society and #SmartNET co-hosted the Ocean Decade Conference satellite event: “The inclusivity we need for the Ocean we want” at Barcelona Capital Nautica. The livestream recording is now available on the ECOP Programme YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/d54mTquS A huge thank you to all guests, moderators, organizers and attendees, and especially the New England Aquarium for making the livestream and recording possible. The outcomes of this event aligned with the vision and mission of the UN Ocean Decade by: * Empowering ECOPs with the skills, knowledge, and networks necessary to contribute meaningfully to Ocean science, conservation, and sustainable development. * Facilitating collaboration and knowledge exchange across various geographies and sectors, promoting a holistic approach to Ocean governance and stewardship. * Supporting the implementation of the Ocean Decade objectives by cultivating a diverse and inclusive community of Ocean practitioners committed to advancing Ocean science and sustainability. Key objectives proposed collaboratively by panelists and attendants included: 🗺️ Changing the location of the events to places with easier accessibility to people from both the Global North and South, 🌊 Decentralizing the way we communicate with coastal communities, 🚧 Removing so-called ‘binary’ requirements of funding opportunities that lead to the marginalization of certain communities, countries and regions, 🧩 Creating greater incentives and opportunities to provide programs/projects with intersectoral solutions to intersectional problems, 🔵 Ensuring that when transitioning to circularity that communities are at the core of the beneficiaries, 🧑🎨 For solution design to be a product of collaboration across a variety of sectors and lived experiences. We do hope you will check out the recording and we look forward to continuing this vital discussion with you.

Simple and pure communication by ANEESHWAR an 8-year-old, a truly deserving ambassador on a mission of raising awareness globally to save our planet at the Amsterdam Business Forum - https://lnkd.in/gaeCaj4q “Sometimes the solution is simple but powerful, think how our world could be changing in somebody's eyes, making them think differently about a tree, a bird, a mammal or a fish.” “Think Differently” Two powerful words hold the solution. Think Differently by 🎯 changing the perspective 🎯 being on the other side Change is to start within Us. #Climatechange #thinkdifferently #bethechange #environment

🌆🚶♂️ Transforming Urban Landscapes for a Healthier Tomorrow 🚴♀️🌍 As the urgency to reduce car dependency in our urban environments intensifies, the case for a modal shift becomes increasingly compelling. Drawing inspiration from the Netherlands’ triumphant reduction in traffic deaths and the elevation of active travel through grassroots advocacy since the 1970s, it is essential for the US and other nations to embrace similar transformative agendas. To cultivate safer, more accessible cities, we must rethink our urban spaces to favour slow driving and minimise car usage. Substantial investments in dependable public transport and the revision of zoning laws to enable denser, mixed-use neighbourhoods are also required. These strategies confront critical social justice challenges by mitigating air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions and increasing public safety and inclusivity for all community members, particularly the most vulnerable. 🚌💡 The vision of enhanced public transit, protected bike lanes, and pedestrian-orientated streetscapes transcends idealism with practical goals that can stimulate economic growth and support healthy communities. https://lnkd.in/daHraw-G #UrbanPlanning #Sustainability #ActiveTravel #PublicHealth #SocialJustice
