FIEO on World Environmental Day organized webinar on European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and its impact on Indian leather Sector jointly with Leather Working Group today. The participants from the leather community sought clarifications of EUDR, covering its regulatory landscape like its implications on the leather industry, compliance requirements, traceability within LWG certification etc. Officials present were, Mr. Stuart Cranfield, Director of Standards and Assurance LWG, UK; Mr Norbert N., Senior Manager of Standards and Assurance LWG, UK; Mr Habib Hussain, Regional Chairman, FIEO (SR) and Dr. Ajay Sahai, DG & CEO, FIEO and ESG Team members.

Indeed , a very good initiative of FEDERATION OF INDIAN EXPORT ORGANISATIONS and Leather Working Group . And good to read there were so many participants. . Leather is often overseen in discussions on EUDR consequences and necessary actions inside and outside the EU. With its considerable exports of leather to the EU, Indian leather sector and exporters have quite a challenge in organizing traceability for all leather exported to the EU

Besides above, it is also important to note that EU's CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) will also have impact on India's exports of energy -intensive items like steel, cement, fertilizer etc. this will increase their production cost and increase competition in European markets.
