Every conversation around the Energy Supply Chain involves access to #CriticalMaterials. No one better than Ashley Zumwalt-Forbes, the U.S. Deputy Director for Batteries and Critical Materials, to host on #CoffeewithKen for this topic. We will cover existing supply chain challenges, innovations and investments by the federal government.

How can long-term contracts (LTCs) help finance the transition? Interesting read from the Florence School of Regulation. Some takeaways: ➡️ €650 billion needed to reach net zero in EU. Financing must ramp up rapidly this decade and private sector funds must be tapped. LTC ➡️ LTCs will be critical to this goal, including PPAs to tap critical private sector financing. We need all hands on deck (or in pockets!), public and private. ➡️ The EU must rethink its historic “hostility doctrine” towards LTC, and address areas where legislation creates uncertainty. ➡️ EU needs to rebuild a strong and clean industrial base, LTCs can play a critical role here in offering risk sharing and hedging that works for clean energy suppliers and consumers alike. ➡️ Hourly matched / 247 PPAs, more tailored to load, offer improved consumer hedging by addressing concerns about PPA firming costs. This is especially critical for electro-intensive baseload consumers.
