If you're behind on planning for next school year, it's not too late. Do this before you leave for summer: - Determine your no more than 3-4 priorities - Gather input from your returning team on those priorities - Use those priorities to draft goals for all leaders - Create your summer PD calendar - Give leaders criteria and an exemplar to plan PD - Assign them to create PDs that meet the criteria - Create a student culture vision that a) gives teachers guidance about how to uphold schoolwide expectations through affirmation and feedback to students and b) a joy / incentive calendar for students There are 3,564 other things you can do, but if you leave for summer with those each planned, you'll set yourself up to be so much more successful next year. --- PS: If you need help getting to excellence for any of those, send me a DM. Our team has capacity to support a 1-2 more partners to win on the upcoming year starting now.

It has been a few months since I became the Program Chair of the School of Information Technology at Hallmark University. I admit it is like trying to drink from a firehose. My leadership has given me someone to assist me in leading the school. He is a fantastic mentor and leader. I feel as if I am growing and learning. Why this post? Well, it is for a few things. 1. You never stop learning. 2. Swallow your pride and learn what your mentor is telling you. 3. MBE alone is never good (Management By Email). You need to physically speak to someone. 4. Visual management for goals makes your department's goals clear with everyone. 5. Never be afraid to play the strong arm in unique cases that require it. 6. Always listen. You never know you might hear something that you can help with to make their lives better. 7. You are here to make the department better. You are here to make your students better. You are here to have the students be successful. I have done a few of these, but when you have an experienced leader explain what is really required makes the whole department better. This matches with what I have a need for. I have a need for these students to graduate and become the BEST IT graduates in the city.

What are your tips for influencing without authority?
I am impressed and inspired by Boise State studio\Blu team, faculty, and entrepreneurs for their collaborative approach and innovative thinking during the 4-workshop program focused on Influencing without Authority we completed this week. Thank you Catherine Cantley for the opportunity to work with this fantastic group. Wondering what strategies help with influence and consensus building? This is the list the group created on the culminating day (including one jokester – can you spot it?)

🚀 What an exciting month February has been🚀 1. We've dedicated a significant portion of February to refining our Curriculum and Assessment Framework. It's been fantastic to work closely together drawing inspiration from best practices across the trust and our own experiences. Together, we've crafted an example policy to guide leaders in defining excellence in the classroom and throughout the school. We presented this to leaders on Tuesday & I can't wait to dive into their ones and see the impact they'll have! 2. Feeling incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by fantastic primary science leaders. We've been hard at work codifying our objectives for the upcoming Summer term, culminating in the creation of our Primary go-to guides. These resources, have now been checked and uploaded onto our portal, are poised to elevate the science provision for our primary students. Excited to see the lessons come to life and witness the impact firsthand next term! 3. Our journey at the NPQEL has begun, and the timing couldn't be more perfect. The modules focusing on Implementation have been enlightening, and I'm thrilled to be connecting with fellow leaders. It's inspiring to exchange ideas and experiences, knowing that we're all committed to driving positive change in education. 4. Year 11 support remains a top priority across our secondary schools, and this month it has been on supporting foundation students in achieving a 4-4 . Team Science has been going above and beyond, and I'm hopeful that our efforts will be reflected in the outcomes. Together, we're empowering our students to reach their full potential. Exciting times ahead! Can't wait to see what March has in store. #Education #TeachingAndLearning #LeadershipDevelopment

It's time to progress from just listening to students to empowering young people to make the goals identified in your strategic plan a reality. In this episode of Thought Leaders: In their own words, Superintendent Young shares what it looks like to provide young people with the support needed to become leaders of learning for their younger counterparts. Imagine seniors leading freshmen through a full-semester course designed to build confidence and connections among every 9th grader. This is not just a one-day orientation or week-long summer program. This is real student empowerment. Take 15 minutes out of your day to learn HOW to empower young people and see WHAT it looks like to progress from listening to action. While you're listening, consider: ❓ What value empowering young people might bring to your school/district/org ❓ How far you are from this level of student action in your district ❓ What mindset shifts are needed to embrace student empowerment Listen now and start making a difference in your district! #studentempowerment #leadersoflearning #educationleadership Tim Hanner Scott Menzel Frank Miranda, Ed.D.
