This year marks the 100th anniversary of the last California grizzly bear being spotted in Sequoia National Park, never to be seen again. This state icon is an example of the beautiful and unique native Californian wildlife that can too easily be lost. To commemorate this anniversary, institutions from around the state are coming together to declare 2024 the year to "Coexist with Wildlife, California.” Stay tuned for events, activities, and information this summer highlighting threatened native Californian species, and to learn what you can do to #CoexistWithWildlifeCalifornia. https://lnkd.in/gehzQQet

After a summer of high bear activity and some tragic incidents for bears and humans, we invite you to join Wildlife Ambassador Derek Ryder at the Canmore Public Library for their Earth Talks presentation: "There's a Bear on my Street! A conversation about urban wildlife." This Earth Talks event, in partnership with the Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley, will take place on Monday November 20, 2023 in the Friends Program Room at 7:00pm. Registration is required: https://ow.ly/l0jK50Q1AR1 Attendees will learn about: 🐻 Encountering bears and other wildlife in the wilderness is good; having them in the urban environment is problematic 🐻 Strategies that could help in preventing bear removal or relocation 🐻 What you should do if there’s wildlife (like a bear) in YOUR neighbourhood We’ll also have a question period and discussion. Some things we look forward to discussing are: 🐻 How do you think we SHOULD be dealing with urban wildlife? 🐻 Is the argument that “the wildlife was here first” a valid one? 🐻 How can we continue to improve human wildlife coexistence? What are the barriers/opportunities? #EarthTalks #Bears #UrbanWildlife #BowValley #Canmore #Banff

Coexisting with wildlife is the key to success for not only these species survival but our own. At home and abroad we need to incorporate ways to coexist on a daily basis. How do you positively coexist with a low impact on local wildlife? What changes can you make?
How do you #coexist with wildlife? Coexistence is a sustainable state where humans and wildlife share landscapes — with minimal risk to both people and animals. When coexisting with wildlife, our actions, behavior and attitudes toward wildlife and their habitats enable their populations to thrive. We are creating an environment where humans are stewards of the land, valuing wildlife and the role they play in maintaining the health of the natural world. 👉 Click this link to learn more about what exactly coexistence is, why it is important and what Panthera is doing to promote it: https://bit.ly/48DWja3 Send to a friend and share how #WeCanCoexist with wild cats!

In the jungles of the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary in Belize, an #ocelot king and queen roam free. For nearly 20 years, Panthera and the Belize Audubon Society have been studying jaguars in this unique landscape. In addition, we focus on four other cat species that live here, too: pumas, jaguarundis, margays and ocelots. M12-1 and F13-2, two ocelots we have monitored, have recently begun their own ocelot lineage. In this blog, learn more about the story of how these two ocelots met and their offspring: https://bit.ly/3MKiG59
