On January 27, 2022 a STATEMENT OF MUTUAL COOPERATION was signed between the Texas Economic Development and Tourism Office, Office of the Texas Governor, USA (Adriana Cruz, Executive Director) and the Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs, Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Japan (Sakamoto Masahiko, Director General). 19 communities in Texas were part of this agreement designed to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) expand into each party’s market, promote innovation through collaboration and joint research, and facilitate the creation of jobs through direct investment. Specific activities under the agreement include: 1.      Providing foreign SMEs with information about, and introduce them to, agencies and institutions and persons who can provide support; 2.      Disseminating program information among relevant local and regional stakeholders; 3.      Supporting foreign SMEs on administrative procedures in the host market including providing information about the necessary paperwork for establishing a company or developing sales channels; 4.      Sharing information about scheduled business matchmaking events, trade fairs of related industries, and space to exhibit commercial products/services in the host region; 5.      Supporting foreign SMEs in building relationships with local companies , start-ups, investors and universities to foster their integration in the local ecosystem; 6.      Providing information to the employees of foreign SMEs and their families on matters concerning daily life including procedures related to healthcare, education, and residence. Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu LLC, acting as a project management office for this Inter-regional Economic Exchange Program of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, have contracted with HOWORTH International, LLC in Texas to support the Japanese Tokyo-based SMEs selected by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to expand their business in Texas. In 2022, seven SME’s were selected to participate in the program and in 2023, ten Tokyo-based SME’s have been selected. On September 19th, we had the official kick-off event of the 2023 program with presentations by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, each of the Tokyo-based SME’s, HOWORTH International and partners - the Texas Japan Office, JETRO - Japan External Trade Organization , Houston and an overview of the support of the Global Development Initiative Program of the Naveen Jindal School of Management, UT Dallas and the Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth. #japan #usa #tokyo #texas #howorthintl #howorthllc #smesupport #sme #deloitte Hiroyuki Watanabe Hubert Zydorek Moeko N.
