AARP released their latest Dignity 2024 survey, which increases our understanding of the lived experience of LGBTQ adults age 45-plus in the areas of health care access, caregiving, isolation, and relationships.
It was found that four out of five older LGBTQ adults, or ~78%, are concerned about having enough social support as they get older. Women and Black respondents, along with those who have a disability, were more likely to say they are “extremely” or “very” concerned about a lack of social support in the future.
The survey also found that half of #LGBTQ older adults already feel socially isolated at times, which can have a profound impact on a person’s mental and physical health, research shows. The feelings are highest among transgender and nonbinary adults, with 63 percent reporting they often or sometimes feel isolated from others. #WeRefusetoBeInvisible #LGBTQAging
