A milestone has been reached in my career: PhD complete! Last Thursday, 27/06/2024, after 4 years of intensive study and hard work, I successfully defended my PhD thesis before a distinguished scientific committee. My thesis, titled “Impact assessment of emission control technologies and new marine fuels on shipping emissions”, examines the impact of marine fuels and emission control technologies on climate-warming species, with a particular focus on the harmful air and particulate pollutants that affect human health and the environment. The outcomes can be adapted to real-world situations, providing solutions to minimize the environmental impact of shipping. This journey has been filled with countless hours of research, writing, and growth. I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in numerous European and National funded projects and conferences, and to collaborate with colleagues from various recognized institutions. A decisive role in my educational and professional development was played by my supervisor, Professor Leonidas Ntziachristos. His support, scientific insight, and teaching were crucial to overcoming the challenges I faced. I want to express my deepest gratitude for his unwavering trust and encouragement from the beginning of our collaboration. I look forward to the next steps in future research and the implementation of this study in real-world scenarios. #PhD #Achievement #Research #shipping #ships #ports #maritime #Environmentalimpact #Marinefuels #emissioncontroltechnologies #decarbonization #emissionreduction #Futuregoals
