Before being an aircraft/vehicle dynamicist, I was a researcher on #fluid #dynamics. During my PhD at ETSIAE - UPM, we investigated on #high #order methods applied to industrial two-phase flows. In particular, you see that these methods are very accurate for smooth flows, but they lack numerical stability and accuracy when the fluid becomes turbulent. Along our industrial partner, we investigated on enhanced robustness via #entropy #stability. Entropy stability can be shown to be related to non linear stability, and enables to construct discretizations for non linear terms with physical consistency. As a result, your simulations are less likely to blow up! If you are struggling with numerical stability in your discretization, consider to give an opportunity to these methods. I'm pleased to share that our latest research paper, titled 'Robust 4D climate-optimal aircraft trajectory planning under weather-induced uncertainties: Free-routing airspace,' has been published in the Journal of "Transportation Research Part D: Transport and Environment". To access the full paper, please visit the following link:  https://lnkd.in/dFQrkdnN In this study, we developed a state-of-the-art #methodology for planning #climate-optimal #aircraft trajectories under meteorological #uncertainty characterized using Ensemble Prediction System Forecasts. The strong dependency of #nonCO2 climate effects on meteorological conditions allows for their mitigation by strategically rerouting flight paths around areas with significant climate impacts. However, inevitable uncertainties in #weatherforecasts, especially for the relative humidity field, required to predict areas where persistent #contrails are expected to form, can result in inefficient aircraft trajectories if not incorporated into #flightplanning a priori. In the current research, we introduce a framework based on the context of #robust tracking #optimalcontrol to generate #climateoptimized trajectories with minimal sensitivity to weather forecast uncertainty. I am honored to say that my proposal entitled " Development of Computational Fluid Dynamics tools for prediction of underwater radiated noise" awarded the “Aspiration” Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2023 call (https://lnkd.in/gut5-87A). It is a great honor for me to succeed in this rigorous scientific competition and I am very grateful to Prof. Peter Oshkai for his advices and invaluable supervision. The proposal can be briefly explained as follows: “The underwater noise acoustic signature in marine environments, caused by shipping lanes and commercial vessels, poses a significant environmental threat to ocean life. In this work, high-fidelity computer modeling and optimization-based design aim to diminish the noise produced by marine propellers, leading to minimizing environmental pollution and improving the health of undersea creatures.” #UVic #CFD

HPCD in Computational Fluid Dynamics course (29th Aug – 23rd Nov) Week 11 of this unprecedented national and international collaborative graduate-level course in CFD was devoted to Ocean Modelling which plays a crucial role in our understating of the ocean’s influence on weather and climate. The bespoke syllabus will not be complete without fundamental topics like geophysical fluid dynamics, physical oceanography, and environmental flows. Internationally renowned scientist Bishakhdatta Gayen, an ARC Future Fellow and Associate Professor from Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Melbourne, has presented two inspiring lectures, namely CFD (DNS/LES) of Oceanic Flows (14th Nov) and Large-Scale Ocean Modelling (16th Nov), to a receptive and engaged cohort, composed of PhD students and ECRs based in Australia. A sweet crowning of a long journey begun time ago. Involving 4 University (Florence, Padua, Skoltech and ISAE-ENSMA) and 3 nations, fulfilled at ICHS, the most important worldwide conference about Hydrogen safety. Was perhaps a fortune meet my supervisor or just a causality, but thank to Josue Melguizo-Gavilanes an extremely expert, friend and passionate researcher in this field that he definitely turned my mind on my skeptical vision of the research. We worked along side with the collaboration of CNRS and Institut Pprime in France, to shed the light on a fascinating physics-rich problem in combustion, #DDT (deflagration to detonation transition), here our conference paper. Participating to this conference just confirmed my expectations; a pool of scientists gathered from all around the world aiming on what we have been doing for long time: try to understand our UNIVERSE operating and pull those knowledges on our side, to improve, to develop, to evolve, to cure, to save and to understand HIM deeply. United we can. That’s the idea my journey, my research, my supervisor and this conference left to my mind. As aerospace engineer with the aim to be specialized in space and deep-space propulsion, what mostly excite me is the manipulation of this complex phenomena in support of rockets propulsion (RDE), here, is where I would like to work on and continue this journey with the security of having a perfect wing-mate on my side and hoping this was just the beginning of a long series of conferences till once perhaps we will able, as humanity, to catch HIS attention, and say: “here we are!”
