Intern Spotlight!!! C&B is proud to recognize Trey Reynolds. Trey Interned with C&B this summer before returning to Auburn University to finish his Degree in Industrial Engineering. Trey hit the ground running when he came on board helping us set up our new lining & coating facility. He worked under the direction of our plant engineer to perform time studies, process flow models, and physical set up of the process flow that we are currently using today. Trey jumped right in to learning our products and processes, and helped in many departments this summer. "What I enjoyed the most was being able to give my input on important projects and decisions, something that many lower-level employees/interns don’t commonly have an opportunity to do. I enjoyed learning the steps and procedures needed to complete a project. For example, how to go from the early development stage to getting the idea approved, then contacting vendors and getting the necessary material ready to actually implement the solution/idea." Good Luck this fall Trey!!!

Summer is intern season. But why should that matter to you as a leader? It means young and (questionably) fashionable college students are wandering the office. And trying to figure out how to use the printer. More than that, they’re trying to figure out what they want to do with “the rest of their lives." While these twenty-somethings want to learn from your company, there’s an opportunity here for you to seek out their insight and perspective. You can learn from your interns. The younger generation offers a fresh outlook on life and work. They’re eager, wise, and have more to offer than just an afternoon coffee run. In fact, they could be in charge one day. Here’s my challenge to you this summer: Take your interns out to lunch. Stay curious, ask them questions, and be open to their worldview and feedback. Most importantly, pick up the bill. Summer is intern season, but the real opportunity is for you to be a student.

In the latest issue of the Urban Technology at University of Michigan, program director Bryan Boyer revisits a core hypothesis of the degree program—more data, more feedback loops, better buildings and cities—and we hear from a few students about their summer internships, who are themselves creating new feedback loops into our curriculum. ROI: Interns make life richer whether hosting on your team, pairing up to companies or launching platforms that connect students with "micro" and "summer" work opportunities. Simply, it just feels great to do for this next generation. Over the last few days, the ROI (Return On Internships) has been awesome to witness for our VCET team and broader community. These little gems include: An intern from 25 years ago reached out after being CTO or CPO at several leading global tech firms seeking help in starting their own next *BIG* thing. VCET's two summer associates from Middlebury and University of Washington are now in the house and crushing it. An MBA Fellow from 16 years ago asked for career advice and within 48 hours was speaking with the CEO of the company of "his dreams". One MA based intern who had been paired with two Vermont hardware companies over last two summers started ** today ** in a full time engineering role at one of these. #boom UVM ARC students are in-the-house once again making IP into a business. Middlebury College Innovation Hub Summer Program kicked off Widewail offices in Hula. This programs places interns all over Burlington area. Two McGill engineering students from Northern VT are making the next generation of solar cells and working on underwater robots! And on and on, these stories go. Way to go #Vermont for stepping up and focusing on the best ROI. What's your Internship story?

Customer-centric Marketing | Brand Strategy | Strategic Brand Partnerships | 3x HGTV ‘Rock the Block’ Winner
I had a chance to visit the Emerson College Los Angeles last week, and besides my uncontainable enthusiasm with another masterpiece of Architect Thom Mayne, I took a couple branding lessons. Emerson College is one of the top film schools in the country, and the LA campus was built as a satellite to accomodate 200 Senior studens of the Boston campus who come for a semester-long internship program in LaLaLand, the most important hub of the entertainment industry. With that in mind: - Investing in a state-of-the-art campus was a priority in order to offer the best possible experiences to the students, Emerson’s primary customers, offering innovative academic solutions while expanding interactive, social aspects of education. They make it clear that community is an essential value of their brand. - By choosing world acclaimed Architect Thom Mayne and his office Morphosis to lead the campus’ design, Emerson immediately puts its building on the Los Angeles’ landmarks map and creates a statement on innovation that will propel its brand for years to come. An incontestably impactful exposure. - By celebrating a design language that translates its brand values and vision, Emerson also created a secondary and powerful source of revenue by locating the facilities for movie, TV and commercial productions interested in framing its sculptural shapes on the screen, reason of my visit. Have you ever thought about how the values of your brand can be experienced by your customers in unique ways? When working on your business plan for the year, are you able to anticipate how your customers should feel in each touchpoint of their journey with your brand? Leave in the comments! This is what a Brand Architect does! :-) Thank you Tatiana Barzaghi for sharing your time, knowledge and courtesy, making my entire experience even better. #customerexperience #marketing #customerretention #branding #partnership #businessplanning #brandbuilding #brandmatchmaker #bmmmarketing
