Attention all homemade dog food enthusiasts! Dried shiitake mushroom broth is a flavor your dog will love! ■ Safety and Usage of Shiitake While shiitake mushrooms are safe for dogs to consume, they are rich in dietary fiber. Overfeeding can lead to diarrhea or vomiting. Especially for small dogs, it's recommended to start by giving a quarter to half a slice (1 piece) per serving. It's also best to avoid giving them raw; instead, it's advisable to boil them in water. ■ For Dogs with Sensitive Stomachs Some dogs have sensitive stomachs. There might be owners who prefer to thoroughly cook vegetables or remove them to serve only the broth to their dogs. However, since dietary fiber plays a role in maintaining a healthy gut environment, it's not advisable to exclude it entirely. The broth from dried shiitake mushrooms, which contains soluble dietary fiber, is particularly recommended for dogs needing a gentle option for their digestive system. ■ About the Flavor Components Dried shiitake mushrooms are rich in natural umami components. While glutamic acid is commonly known, there's a component called guanylic acid, which is not found in fresh shiitake mushrooms, and this is a flavor source that dogs adore. Matsutake and enoki mushrooms also contain the same component. ■ Pros and Cons ※ Pros: Rich in dietary fiber, containing both soluble and insoluble fibers. The broth from shiitake mushrooms that's slowly boiled is particularly recommended for dogs with slightly weak digestive systems. ※ Cons: Because of the high fiber content, it can be challenging to determine the right amount to give. Rarely, some dogs might be allergic to mushrooms, so caution is required. I incorporate dried shiitake mushroom broth into meals for both my dog and myself. When I eat, I use it in dishes like sukiyaki, miso soup, and sweet and spicy pork. The flavor is exquisite and addictive. For those wanting to enjoy both their dog's health and a delicious meal, I highly recommend giving it a try!

Puddings Always a topic that get's a little heated when I chat with #nurseries - why do we have such strong feelings about the need for pudding? With food prices sky high and #nutritional intake at an all time low, maybe it's time we look at our relationship with pudding - are we budgeting to add zero nutrients? I've been working with a local #nursery on their puddings - removing them daily and alternating with no pudding at all, fruit or a starter available. On the puddings that remain I have removed all refined sugars and tweaked these recipes to include #vegetables Puddings (if you have them) should at least add in some #nutritional value otherwise you are spending money on food that isn't doing anything useful for a child's #development When I work with settings I also provide #parent help sheets and #practitioner #training so that you can have confident discussions on the role of #sugar in #earlychildhooddevelopment and why #puding every day isn't a good idea for a forming food relationship These recipes on the floating pudding menu are: Sweet Potato Rings Banana & Strawberry Muffins Courgette & Dried fruit scones Banana & Oat muffins Root veg Oat squares Banana & sultana bread #menudesign #menudevelopment #nursery #kitchen #nurserychef #nutrition #food #childdevelopment #education
