From March 5 to 7, the third Plenary Meeting of the SmartCommUnity Project (https://lnkd.in/eRg3hHt6) is being held in Valle d'Aosta, Italy. The project, which is part of the Interreg Alpine Space program, aims to combat some of the problems plaguing the rural world in the Alpine area. The Software Competence Center Hagenberg, represented by our colleague Jorge Martinez-Gil, presents a new release of the platform with a chatbot trained on information about the rural world, as well as a SmartApp that analyzes geographic information from open sources to offer possible suggestions for improvement. #interreg #InterregAlpineSpace #scch #datascience #softwarescience #AI #research #hagenberg

What do wooly mammoths, the race to mars and breaking the algorithm have in common? SXSW Sydney was a convergence of creative industries and ideas. I used it as an opportunity to explore topics I didn't know much about - here's a few things I took away from my experience: 🚀 Australian Space Agency and Colossal Biosciences taught us that innovation at the extremes of possibility (think space exploration, and de-extincting the wooly mammoth) exposes us to new challenges which can prompt advancements in seemingly unrelated fields such as food security, medicine, disaster response and endangered species protection. 🤔 Manal (Mia) al-Sharif and Rohit Bhargava reminded us to recognise the inherent bias in the information that we are exposed to in our everyday lives. To break the cycle we need to venture outside our bubbles and echo chambers; have conversations with people who share different views, question where your news comes from, be curious and seek out things that contradict your opinions, values, tastes and interests. Break the algorithm! 👩💻 Google encouraged us to embrace AI - play with it, test it, make mistakes and learn something new. Rapid developments in AI will significantly affect jobs of the future. With many of us likely to be working into our late 60s/70s - it is more important than ever to skill up and stay relevant.
