According to the 2023 International Physician Compensation Report from @Medscape, doctors in the U.S. and Canada are paid SIGNIFICANTLY more than their counterparts in other countries. Why? Highly skilled and educated workers in many professions are highly paid in the U.S. and Canada. Add to that the fact that there are fewer physicians per capita in those countries than in other developed nations. And the fact that U.S. and Canadian physicians typically have at least 8 years of studies BEFORE residency, while in many parts of Europe you complete 5-6 years of undergraduate study in medicine. The high monetary and time cost of this educational period constrains the supply of physicians, and labor shortages generally tend to drive up wages. Have you considered practicing medicine in another country? Are you an international physician? Do these numbers seem accurate? #physician #physicianfinances #physiciancompensation #internationalphysicians #IMGphysician #doctorfinance #physicianincome #wci

"Find a way or make it", is the motto of the "father" of the West Coast Wilderness Railway of Tasmania, Bowes Kelly. https://lnkd.in/gvXidYqG When I was a GP Registrar in East Arnhem I came across an old journal article by Prof Kerin O'dea https://lnkd.in/gNw4AKzW that tells a story of how diabetes could be treated and be put into remission through the application of lifestyle medicine. https://lnkd.in/g6bY836y Although, she did not use the term #lifestylemedicine it was clear to me at the time that physical activity, nutritious traditional foods and food culture of #Aboriginal people, social and cultural connection to land and looking after the land was the "intervention" that put type 2 diabetes into remission for the women who participated in the project. It only took 7 weeks for evidences of diabetes and its associated markers to disappear from their blood tests. This story which was known to health scientists for some time but I was not taught this fact in my undergraduate years. This article really started my interest in lifestyle medicine in individual consultations but more so in my #communitydevelopment work wherever I went in #ArnhemLand the #TanamiDesert or on #Bunurong and #Wurundjeri country. Unfortunately, lifestyle medicine and its practice is still not embedded in the undergraduate medical curriculum. LM is not just #preventivehealth. LM has the power to restrain, repress, prevent and remit chronic diseases. "#Lifestyleasmedicine" is a common mantra and medical students today are wanting more from their medical education and placement experience. Next week I have been invited again to speak to more medical students. This time I have accepted the invitation from the Monash University Lifestyle Medicine Interest Group. I think I will be imagining talking to a bunch of medical students and myself as a medical student what I wished I had been told before my vocational training years. It could have wasted less time and less resources in my career. I am hoping to convey these messages: -How LM practice fits in health practice -Required attitudes for LM practice -Moving from a healthcare system that we have to one that health consumers want and need -Tools we need to be taught for LM practice -One of the core actions of LM practitioners must be "Advocacy" -Joining the LM movement Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine Monash University

In medical colleges ,why there are no clear-cut eligibility criteria? Why Msc medical post graduates are treated like disposable items ,use and throw ? Supreme Court should intervene immediately to sort out this issue,as it is not only affecting non-medical post graduates, PhD teachers, but also young doctors,as insufficient faculty is affecting the standard of medical education. Bollywood has already suffered due to nepotism ,now medical colleges ,labs and hospitals should not be the next target. If Court issues orders to appoint only doctors, then at least the Msc medical courses be stopped,as the passing out students have no where to go for job. Hope humanitarian consideration is done to save careers and families of lakhs of non-medical faculty staff.

Associate Consultant Neurologist & Fellow Movement Disorders at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital | Healthcare | Health-tech|
What does it take to become a #GoodPractisingDoctor? My perception when I joined MBBS and Internnal Medicine Residency: 1. Good Knowledge of the subject 2. Good analytical sense for symptom complex and derivation of differential diagnosis. 3. Empathy towards Patient This seemed simple and achievable as most the people who join medicine are nerds and hard work is not a big deal! After 11years post MBBS and 8years post Internal Medicine. Yes! These three are important. They are the foundations of your career ! But at same time they are not the only factors that ensure your rise . Imagine a building being constructed the first three ensure you get the depth of the subject and the field — The Foundation! When it comes to constructing the floors something more is required; 1. #Goodcommunicationskills - this is the most important skill needed at every step, talking to patients, peers, colleagues, collaborators. 2. #Confidence: there is a thin line between confidence and arrogance. And at times gets mistaken for lack of modesty. But to be confident of your skills and to be able to portray them is utmost important. As that’s your #nonverbalcommunication! 3. A certain amount of #workingknowledge : how a clinic works, how a nursing home works and finally what it is to be part of corporate hospitals or public sector hospitals. This is very necessary to make informed decision what you wish to do post your degrees! Unfortunately this type of training is not included in the curriculum and doctors are left to look out for same on their own as they start practising and sometimes realising these a bit late! What are your thoughts about this being a part of curriculum of medical education?

Medical students who do not match to a residency program have several options. Alternatively, students can apply to another specialty residency program or wait and apply next year. A doctor without a residency can also work as a researcher or physician assistant. Even though some opportunities don't involve direct patient care, they show a commitment to medicine. If a doctor without a residency considers these options and remains dedicated to their medical career, they can still succeed. #MedicalStudents #ResidencyProgram #PhysicianAssistant #DedicationToMedicine
