That antidepressant dispensing rates accelerated so rapidly after the start of the pandemic is not surprising. What is surprising is that this increase occurred even though antidepressant dispensing to male adolescents significantly declined. Fascinating but also concerning findings.
Although the rate of #antidepressant dispensing was already on the rise before the #COVID-19 outbreak in March 2020, it accelerated by 63.5% afterward—supporting claims that #mental health among adolescents and young adults worsened during this time. https://lnkd.in/eYNdYQCJ

A new report from the CDC shows that there were more than 2.5 million cases of sexually transmitted infections in the US in 2022. Most concerning is the rise in the number of newborn syphilis cases, where a pregnant person with syphilis passes the infection to a developing fetus. This can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, life-long disabilities, or death shortly after birth. STIs - including newborn syphilis - are PREVENTABLE! We have to prioritize public health to catch, treat, and prevent the spread of STIs. https://lnkd.in/d68gPkwX Conclusion Our findings indicate that the current prevention and control of HSBP in older adults is poor, with the total burden increasing significantly. There is an urgent need to implement feasible measures to resist HSBP and lessen the disparity of the global HSBP burden for older adults.

There are approximately 20 million new s^xually transmitted infections (STIs) annually in the United States, with over half of those infected between the ages of 15-24 (Habel et al., 2018). When we break that down, that is high school and college-age people. Why is this, you ask? Well, young adults frequently engage in risky behaviors. 🦠 S^xually Transmitted Infections (STIs) can affect anyone, and it's crucial to prioritize your s^xual health. Most health centers offer a judgment-free, confidential, and supportive environment for all your STI-related concerns. 🗣️ Don't be shy! Start an open conversation about STIs with your friends and partners. The more we talk, the less stigma there is, and the safer the campus communities become. 🔍 Remember that it's essential to use emergency contraception (Plan B or Ella) as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse for it to be most effective. Many health centers can provide emergency contraceptives. Or Plan B can be purchased over the counter without a prescription (located near the store's family planning or female hygiene section). . . . *I do not make ANY money or get ANYTHING for offering this information or referencing a product. At Kenvue we are all about putting people first, which is why I’m really proud of the spotlight the team here in the UK is placing on the need for immediate action to reduce the costs and impacts of families with children where someone smokes. In the ‘We are family: delivering more smokefree families in England’ report that’s just been released from Future Health Research , the report finds that there are an estimated 1.8 million households in England with children where someone smokes. The report reflects that smoking in pregnancy, second-hand smoke in the home throughout pregnancy, and in the early years of childhood is still a big problem in England. Within this, it recognises regional disparities, with the highest proportion of these households in the East (8.9%) and North East of England (8.7%). The research – undertaken by former Government Adviser Richard Sloggett and commissioned and funded by Kenvue in the UK, applauds the recent Government announcements on reducing smoking for future generations, but argues that more immediate action is needed to reduce the costs and impacts of families with children where someone smokes. The report explores the need for a greater policy focus on supporting the partners of pregnant women and new mothers to quit smoking. Whether through increasing the age of sale for tobacco to 21, introducing pack inserts to include messages that support partners of pregnant women to quit smoking, or through a new wave of Government-led public health campaigning, the actions open to us are far-ranging. We are committed to working with the Government so that together, we can improve health outcomes for people, and work to achieve a smokefree society by 2030. https://lnkd.in/eqErBcj4 You can read the report here: https://lnkd.in/esuufjGX #WeAreKenvue
