I am capable of cleaning my house, but it is not the best use of my time. ..so I use a cleaning service. People are capable of doing their own admin, but it takes them away from higher priority to dos. ...so they hire an admin. Most of us could reasonably muster through our taxes, but it would be a huge headache and likely not efficient. ...so we outsource to an accountant. The same is the case with recruiting. You might be able to find those ideal candidates, but it will pull you away from revenue producing, high priority tasks. ...so you hire a recruiter. We aren't here to find the impossible, we are here to make your life easier. If you're hiring for any positions in wine and spirits, reach out! We hired a new member of staff! Hiring a new member of staff comes with many challenges and you always try your best to ensure they are a right fit. I have posted about this before that we prioritize “honesty” and “hard working” as being above all, as these are the main contributing factors to success. We hired in a more junior position than we initially intended because they fit these exact qualities, and we will provide them with the necessary training and support they need. Over the holidays, a conversation came up that I want to share. It challenges a common hiring bias - the reluctance to consider "overqualified" candidates. 🤔 Here's the quick version of the conversation: I was speaking with a family member who had dedicated over 15 years to an accounting firm (picture long hours with an in-office requirement). However, when COVID hit (as it did for many), her family made the choice for her to spend a couple of years at home with her growing family. Now, she is looking for a part-time bookkeeper role, she consistently encounters discouraging responses like "you're overqualified" or "we're concerned you might leave for a higher-paying accounting job." Hiring Managers: It's natural to wonder why someone with more experience and qualifications than a job requires would want the position. However, there are compelling reasons why candidates are considering this change and companies should actively consider these candidates. This conversation was just one of many I've had recently on this subject. In my opinion, it presents an incredible opportunity for companies to diversify their hiring strategies and bring on kick a$$ employees. 💼✨ #HiringBias #Recruitment #DiversityInHiring #OverqualifiedCandidates

👨💼 As a public sector recruiter I know the importance of highlighting work experience as it pertains to the minimum requirements for the position I am applying for. It is literally the first screening in the process. If I do not show this on the application, I am very likely to not move forward. Let’s say I am applying for a position with the following experience requirements: 3 years of full-time general clerical experience, which includes 2 years accounting or financial experience. 👉 First, I know that the application is more important than a resume for most, if not all, public agencies. 👉 Next, I know that “full-time” means 2080 hours per year, so any part-time work is likely to count as half-time when calculating the general clerical and accounting/financial experience. 👉 Finally, I know that I must leave no doubt that my application includes experience related to the minimum requirements. That said, I would include the following for every employer on my application where applicable: 📝 Work experience related to the minimum requirements includes: the following clerical duties (answering emails, filing, record keeping for x, data entry into x system for x, maintaining calendars for x, scheduling meetings, sorting mail, and any more experience that is relevant). 📝 For those employers where I have accounting or financial experience (because it is important, I must have 2 years of this experience), I would use the same set-up as above and then list relevant experience such as payroll, bookkeeping, reconciliation, timekeeping, ledger entry, etc. After that, I would list all the other work experience that is important, but may not be directly related to the minimum requirements.
