Woohooo!! You may have heard how we're a 5-star hospital by CMS (only one in the entire west half of Iowa!), and a Top 100 Rural and Community Hospital, and we are also a TOP 20 RURAL AND COMMUNITY HOSPITAL! This is the third time we've received that honor! 😊

It's official! After months of speculation and whispers in the corridors, Humana has made a strategic move by acquiring most of the Cano centers. This acquisition had been on the horizon since spring, and while there were murmurs about Humana's right of first refusal, the details remained elusive.
Why is this important?
1️⃣ Strategic Expansion: Humana's ambition to grow their Centerwell locations by 40-50 is now over goal. With Cano's 13 centers in Texas and 14 in Nevada (174 total Cano locations), Humana is set to make a significant mark.
2️⃣ Beneficiary Concentration: Texas and Florida are home to the largest concentrations of Humana Medicare Advantage beneficiaries. With 440K in Texas and 85K in Nevada out of 5.75 million covered lives, these Cano centers are perfectly positioned to serve them.
3️⃣ Strengthening Additional States: Come next June, Humana is poised to present even more compelling MAPD bids in Nevada for the 250K traditional Medicare beneficiaries. This move will further solidify to compete with the MAPD leader UnitedHealth Group (105K MAPD members in Nevada).
4️⃣ Untapped Potential: This acquisition places Humana in an advantageous position to tap into Texas as there is 1.8 million traditional Medicare beneficiaries to fight over and they are second to UnitedHealth Group in this State as well with 1.1 UHC MAPD beneficiaries
In essence, this acquisition is not just about numbers; it's about Humana's commitment to providing top-notch care for their beneficiaries. As the healthcare landscape evolves, strategic moves like this will shape the future of Medicare services.

In our work in high reliability care, we encourage healthcare organizations to have a true north that incorporates external benchmarks. While not perfect, external benchmarking is an important mechanism to drive quality improvement in a risk-adjusted way using national standards. With lots of discussion about U.S. News Honor Roll around the country this year, it is nice to see some of the positive changes by U.S. News. Congratulations to those who have used this benchmark to drive improvement, whether early or advanced in the journey. With quality and safety metrics worsening nationally over the past 3 years, investment in quality, safety, and high reliability is critically important. With so many challenges in healthcare right now, this work is not an "other". It is the mission and investment in high reliability not only improves outcomes but addresses all of the many challenges we are facing, from financial strain to workforce engagement. #qualityimprovement#patientsafety#highreliability
Congratulations to all who were named to the U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll & Best Hospital Rankings for 2023–2024! There has been much discussion about the role of ratings and rankings in healthcare as of late, and while no rating system is perfect, it remains important that publicly reported outcomes exist as benchmarks for patients. Chartis Chief Medical Officer Andrew Resnick shares, “If you think about a Venn diagram between healthcare ratings and rankings and actual quality, we’ll all agree they don’t overlap 100%. Yet that intersection is an essential focus for making meaningful strides in quality improvement.”
Congratulations to those healthcare organizations who have made strides in outcomes, improved in their U.S. News scores, or are early in their journeys, investing in making care better. We’re all in this together. https://bit.ly/3q4Wfj7
